Suddenly a shot rang out! A door slammed. The maid screamed. Suddenly a pirate ship appeared on the horizon! While millions of people were starving, the king lived in luxury. Meanwhile, on a small farm in Kansas, a boy was growing up.

Nonsense. The 99 version is overwrought. The original 3M editions are the nicest.

Back in 2001 a co-worker wanted the old 3M bookcase version of Acquire. I had purchased the Hasbro Avalon Hill edition, so I let him have my bookcase copy. He gave me 5 AH & 3M bookcase games that weren't in my collection for it. Now I feel that I made a bad trade; the older version was the best!

I like the 199 version the best, although the 3M version is pretty nice as well. One of the nice features about the 199 version is that one of the corporations is named after Sackson, a nice touch.

One could make a reasonable argument for the Schmidt Spiele version with the hotel signs as being the nicest to look at. It's not much easier to find than the wooden world map 3M edition (also very pretty).

I also love the '99 Hasbro plastic edition, and see no reason to pick one, really, and like to play with different editions from time to time.

Changing the hotel name/color assignments was a bug, not a feature, making it annoying and confusing for those who have played with more than one edition of the game. :/

What about the 1995 version? How does that one rate?

The 1999 Hasbro edition. It packs nicely in a drawstring knapsack for storage and grabbing tiles out of midgame.

I like my 1999 version. Why? The board is bigger and the tiles stand up with just about no worries on them falling over, making it easier to see what you have. The stock is smaller, making it easier to have in front of you.

Plus, I think the black board just looks nicer.

The '95 version was terrible. One bump of the table and the markers slid all over (I have kids). The variants were fun, but I couldn't handle the flat board and cardboard tiles.

The Hotel-Haie version is nice, and it has holders for the tiles.
