I'm out of town with some college friends for a couple weeks soon and we're looking for a new game. I want to try a either a coop game or a one vs. everyone else game.

I own quite a lot of both of these, and have been doing my research here, but I was curious if anyone had any suggestions about these types of games that I don't already own that I may have missed.

So far they're voting for Arkham Horror or Middle Earth Quest. And they vetoed Space Alert (I swear, I will never find anyone to play this with), Fury of Dracula, and Lord of the Rings.

But I want something new. I've been reading over Mansions of Madness and can't decide if I'd like it.

What else should I check out? Or do I already own the cream of the crop?

Popular co-ops you don't seem to have (in no particular order)
Star Trek: Expeditions
Yggdrasil
Conquest of Planet Earth: The Space Alien Game
Defenders of the Realm
Dungeons & Dragons: Castle Ravenloft Board Game
Dungeons & Dragons: Wrath of Ashardalon Board Game
Ghost Stories
Witch of Salem
A Touch of Evil: The Supernatural Game

Can't be bought retail right now:
Atlantis Rising
Flash Point: Fire Rescue
Wok Star
RoboDerby: Express – 3rd Wheel
Warhammer Quest

I see you already have:
Lord of the Rings
Vanished Planet
Forbidden Island
Pandemic (although not On the Brink?)
Red November
The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game
Arkham Horror
Space Hulk: Death Angel – The Card Game

And I should mention my geeklist, which includes a (non-comprehensive) list of one-vs-many games in the header: PeakHope's comprehensive list of purely cooperative games

Any of those in your first list you've tried and liked Kevin?

Unfortunately not. The only one I have tried was Conquest, and it's a good game, but not my style. (You have to remember to add in modifiers from many sources for each combat).

For me, I think Ghost Stories and Witch of Salem would be frustratingly difficult to win. A Touch of Evil is longer and heavier than I would like. I'm a bit nervous about the mixed reviews of the two D&D games.

Defenders looks great (but expensive). I have high hopes for Yggdrasil and Star Trek.

But then I love Vanished Planet (which you rated a 6), so don't trust my judgment!

Others I didn't list earlier because they didn't seem to be the style of game you were considering: The Isle of Doctor Necreaux, Chaos Isle: Zombi Deck, Ablaze!, Onirim.

Yeah, I might need to up my rating of Vanished Planet. I did enjoy it but had a couple negative play experiences, but that could easily be due to the people.

I hadn't seen Conquest yet, so thanks for pointing that one out.

Defenders is a good call, that'll probably what I choose.

Letters from Whitechapel can be played one v. everyone with one person playing as Jack and the rest of the players controlling the police. If they already vetoed Fury of Dracula though it may not be right for you.

Jack,

why not AH? There must be a reason it is the 2nd highest rated coop.

My opinion? Ghost Stories. Excellent game, easy enough to learn, very difficult to become great at it, very replayable, and expandable into new dimensions with White Moon.

Defenders of the Realm

This would be my vote. Plays like Pandemic but I enjoy the theme much more and the little things like 'quests' your hero can complete make this a stand out co-op game imo. Quick enough to learn and play a couple of games in a 4 hour evening session, ime.

I like Arkham Horror sometimes, but I feel it's not as good as many others. I don't like it quite as much as many people here do. That and I have many of the expansions shuffled and wouldn't want to play with them all, so I'd have to spend some time organizing and I'm lazy.

For whatever reason I always felt off on Ghost Stories. I never played it, maybe I just read a negative review or something, but a lot of people keep recommending it so I'll have to revisit the idea.

Defenders of the Realm is looking like exactly what I want.

Thanks everyone!
