Ironically, that's exactly what happened to Pope Boniface LXVIII in 1843 - except for the flying monkeys part; that part's totally false.

I always thought it would have been cool if the word for each number had as many letters in it as the number.

Four is all good, but pretty much all the rest don't fit the bill.

Of course really big numbers might be a problem. "Honey, I have to order a million copies of something next year. Guess I better start writing that form out now. Where are my really huge sheets of paper?" And the idea completely falls to bits when you start talking about fractions, or negative numbers.

But gigantic flaws aside, the idea has a nice ring to it.
