Looking for thoughts on football games. Looking for a game with detail and depth and tactics. Here's what I have played....
Okay had the pleasure of sitting down to play pizza box football
Here's what I liked.
-The offense vs defense system
-The way the game flows like a real football game
-The scores are similar to real games
-all the tables you have to refer to..... but it gets better with familiarity. Not a big problem but I think people should be aware of it.
-while there are tactics there doesn't seem to be much to it other than trying to anticipate the def and offense.
-When the D guesses the correctly what the O is trying to do often nothing happens as a result of this. Similarly when the O surprises the D little often happens.
Okay on to BloodBowl
-the way each player can be different
-not really football
-fun but not much depth
I own Stratomatic ProFootball and GridIron Masters but I have yet to unseal them.
Was George Orwell an Optimist?
Randy Weston - The Spirits of Our Ancestors
My favorite is NFL Strategy. What it lacks is detail about different teams, with associated strengths and weaknesses, but if you're interested in a pure play-calling model from the coach's point of view, it's a beauty.
My two favorites were Paydirt for the simplicity and Pro Football Fantasm if I wanted player stats.
Strat-O-Matic Pro Football was a close second for the latter.
