The following is a press release from the New York Experiment Soccer Club.
Quote:

Champagne is flowing on the streets of New York tonight after the New York Experiment of the SNIFL soccer league captured their first major silverware of their 14 season existence, the prestigious Radge Cup.

A dominating midfield performance - led by Man of the Match, captain and opening goal scorer Mbambo - saw the Experiment boss the World Wonders for almost the entire 90 minutes. A second goal, a bullet by full back Chaplin on the hour mark, put New York out of reach although a hard working Wonders side pushed forward late on and survived a number of additional scares before scoring a late, late consolation with the final kick of the match.

Victory is especially sweet this year for a newly promoted team tipped in the pre-season to return immediately to Division 2. New York defied expectations with a strong 5th place finish, coupled with their impressive, and at times improbable Cup run. SNIFL fans will long talk about the second leg of the Semi Final between New York and Uzice Dragons FC where the Experiment overcame a 4-1 deficit from the first leg (not to mention an aggregate 6-2 hole on the night!) to force extra time with a late equalizer, and eventually win 8-6 to lock up this Final appearance.

The NYX will be looking to build on this season's impressive display by pushing for a Top 4 league finish in Season 20 while of course attempting to defend their Cup crown. Although they will have to do so without their final remaining player from their inaugural Season 6 squad - club captain Abikay (an unused sub on the night) announced his retirement to the fans in an emotional on field speech while clutching the Cup immediately following the match.

Abikay assured fans that the club was in good hands, and that the Experiment's policy of grooming youth from within had proven successful, and would no doubt continue. He pointed to both wingers on the night, Wilkins and Wickland - both drafted by the club in their tens, both still only 20, both starting and starring in the biggest game in the club's history.

"The future looks bright for New York", he said.

Thus ends Season 19 of the Stupidly Named Internet Football League.

We are currently looking for a small number of managers for the upcoming season. Geekmail me, or ping the league to join . . .

I'd be interested, potentially; but all the "rules" links on the page return errors -- makes it hard to see if I'd like it....

Emails sent.

More info in an earlier pitch for managers.

The quick version of the rules is that you'll send in a teamsheet through the website once a week for league matches (plus occasional mid-week cup matches) and receive a results email for your match plus another for league results, table, stats, etc.

Beyond that you can wheel and deal with other managers to sell / loan / trade players, and there are other ways to improve your squad as the season progresses (sub skill camps, youth leagues, auctions, etc.).

All the "extra stuff" (and the day to day stuff, for that matter) is announced and reminded via email, as is all the good natured banter that makes SNIFL seem like a natural fit for Chit Chatters . . .

And any manger with questions can always ping the list or a specific manager for help. A mentoring program is in even place if you want one . . .

What happened was he got a manager's job and proceeded to finish the season ahead of my Experiment.

Season 21 about to get underway . . .

You make it sounds like it was hard to do! ;)

We'll see if I can keep it up. I think that I've put together a slightly stronger squad than last year but I still feel like I'm a bit behind everyone else in division 1.
