My copy of thunderstone (just the basic game) came with a whole pile of cards that look like the card backs on both sides. These cards are not mentioned in the manual, and I have no idea what they are for.

Can anyone explain?

They are. Trust me, just put them somewhere else and forget about them. Get the Wrath expansion soon if you enjoy what you play in the base set and it has proper dividers.

Could these be the "50 Extra-Wide Card Dividers" mentioned in the rulebook?

Yep! As explained by several other threads on the same topic!

Two-sided Background cards. Is this normal?
cards not mentioned in the rulebook
What do these cards do?
What are the 50 double-sided cards for?
Mystery Cards
extra cards
I can't figure out what these cards are for

I found these with a simple search on the topic. This is why the forums have a search function. I usually don't comment on repeats, but this one has been answered so many times that a simple search will DEFINITELY turn up the answer.

Additionally, if your question is about the base game, why post in the Thornwood expansion forums?

As answered, these are the initial dividers provided by AEG.
In the first expansion Wrath of the Elements, newer dividers were provided for the base game and WotE, and every future expansion came with their dividers.

I suggest using them as experience cards if your regular experience cards are overused, and if you have the Dragonspire tokens, simply chuck them in the box and forget about those base dividers
