Is there any solution that matches up with a multiperson chess clock where multiple people can have time banks? I've looked and looked and not found one.

I bet the solution to your problem will turn out to be an iPhone app.

On the iOS front, Game MultiTimer handles up to 6.

The G8 Game Timer will keep up to 8 time banks. I don't think they are still in production, but it looks like they are still available. I have a pile of them somewhere - used to use them for tournaments.

The DGT Cube handles up to six, but has to be accessible to all, or passed from player to player; which can cause timing errors if it is turned the wrong way up.

The G8 handles up to 8 players, but the remaining units simply come as the central hub - you need to build push-button switches yourself, one for each player. You can make the connecting wires as long as you like.

Personally, I am waiting for an android/iPhone app that synchs everyone's phone: allows a "master setting" for the game, then lets players connect wirelessly. Player order could be assigned as each one joins the game. Players tap their phone after each move, activating the next player's count. Variable player order could be handled with a menu. Anyone want to program this? Please!

The G8 is a pass along. I don't think it supports remote switches.

I've been looking for an android app without success. There are some really good free chess clocks out there but nothing that supports more than 2 players. At least not that I can find. I would be very happy if someone could point me to the right direction, either to an app for my phone or even something to run on my laptop.

Can you make it work in the background; at the moment the timer stops if the phone goes to sleep or you use another app etc...

Yes it does

I found my pile of G8 timers and segments on every LCD are now non-functional. They must have been poorly manufactured.

A real electronics nerd would be able to replace those LCD screens.

Unfortunately I'm just a pretend electronics nerd.
But ask around before you chuck em.

That link does not work for me. This one does,

but I see nothing there about remote switches.

Try this one:

http://dreamgreen.org/index.php/products/g8-game-timer/117-g...

You can connect as many switches as you like, but they all will act the same as the center button.

Does it really have to be so exact that each player can't just start a count up timer at the beginning of their turn and stop it at the end? I mean, how do the systems being mentioned work with variable turn order?

The one that I'm toying around on my iPad is called "Game Time" by Simple Tomato. Supposedly, I can unlock 4 more timers if I pay 99 cents. The free download gives you two timers.

There's another one called "GameTimer". It works a lot like a chess clock, but has a feature that limits the amount of time per round, and tracks "overtime" and total game time. If they made it for more than 2 players, I'd love it.
