Quite a lot of stuff in the OCS folder at Consimworld, including here:

http://talk.consimworld.com/WebX?13@556.c5L2cXjYGd0.25@.ee6b...

Since that post there have been quite a few photos and playtest reports posted in that folder - but a bunch of other stuff too, so the RE material can be a bit hard to find.

Thank you Malcolm,

I've tried to find something on that site, but or I'm blind or I've a particular allergy to it ... is a mess.
I really don't understand how is possible to use a site done like that (in 2011) and why autors, designers and others don't write here some of their works, illuminating the minds of simple soul like mine ...

Thanks anyway,

F.

Recluctant Enemies - Starter OCS

Guys,

Reluctant Enemies should be a good way to learn the OCS.

The subject matter is Operation Exporter, the Commonwealth invasion of Vichy Lebanon and Syria, June 8 - July 12, 1941. The Vichy French had allowed the German airforce to base through Syria on their way to Baghdad in support of the anti British coup. Churchill demanded action to confont this threat to the vital oil fields in Iraq. It is an obscure sideshow, but this situation makes for a good game.

It is one map, and one countersheet as John descibes. It is half scale like Sicily (2.5 miles to the hex, 4 turns per week). Very low counter density (certainly by OCS terms). There is a 9 turn scenario covering the first phase of the campaign. The campaign itself is only 21 turns. Very short by OCS terms.

We have developed a 4 page OCS quick start rules summary with a 4 page illustrated examples of play. We are hopeful this will allow newbies to learn the system much quicker than by studying the rules book alone.

The "design"' work has been 90% completed, since mid August. I waited to go to Homercon in October to get feedback from John, Hans and Dean. This was helpful, I have now completed the rules, map and counters in "good form". What's left is to complete design and players notes, historical commentary, bibliography and OoB notes. In addition the Vassal module has just been updated (thank you Urs Widmer), so I can now complete the illustrated examples of play.

I showed the game to Brian Youst (the great evil himself) at WBC and he liked what he saw. He was confident that it would sell well. I think so too. The feedback from people who have seen the game has been consistent, that this type of starter game would be great for the OCS.

So hold steady guys, it's on the way.

CHB

As someone who's never played an OCS game, but has heard so many good things about the system, this game certainly has a great appeal to me!

The designer indicated it's been handed off to MMP, so it may show up on the P500 list sometime soon. This is anecdotal (though from the designer), so take that as you will.

Finally! I have a few of the OCS games with on-going plans to learn and play them sometime "in the future". What keeps me from doing just that? I have always been challenged by the combintation of the learning curve and physical game size (finding a place to set up for the long term where it won't be disturbed) - the former more than the later is the bigger of the two challenges. This new offering looks like it addresses both of my issues and I will no longer have any excuses

For all of us looking forward to this OCS addition let's hope and pray RE goes on the production fast track at MMP - I really want to put it on the table before 2015... a little friendly sarcasim devil

Gentlemen,

I just noticed that there are posts here, pleasantly surprised, but I'm honored.

Dan Taylor, hi. Not submitted to MMP quite yet. I've got a call into Brian Youse and I'm looking to speak to him soon about this project. I have reason to believe it will P500 very quickly.

Real life has intruded badly these past two weeks. That's done now. Still doing final finishing work, the greatest portion of which is to complete the illustrated examples.

So, I'll check here periodically and answer any questions you guys may have.

Thanks for your interest and support.

Filippo and Interested Others,

This game is in the hands of Dean Essig at the moment getting the master's treatment for production.

So, I believe it should P500 soon.

I see there is one 9 turn start scenario mentioned.

About how long (on average) does it play?

Are there any more scenarios and if so what length are they?

Thanks

Martin,

Hi. This is a small game by OCS standards.

However, the 9 turn "start scenario" would still take experienced players 6 to 8 hours to complete as a first experience. Somewhat less if the players have played it before.

Rookies will take more time to get through it. I'd say between 150% to 200% more time than experienced players.

This system takes a commitment.

There is a 21 turn Campaign Game, still tiny by OCS standards. But, 12 to 20 hrs.

I plan to develope a German intervention and British response "what if" scenario. maybe it will be included in a future Special Ops.

Doug and interested others.

Dean is currently working on the components for RE.

I am very close to finishing the narrative portions (Historical notes, design notes, etc.). I'm waiting on proof reading reports.

When Dean is done it is planned to go on P500. It's my belief it will make this number pretty quickly. Then of course we must wait for a production spot.

Greg,

This project is finished on my end. All materials are in the hands of Dean who will finish the graphics for production.

The map and counters are finished now. They look really good.

In addition, an OCS rules summary and starter guide is expected to be included with RE. The narrative is in Dean's hands. The complementary illustrated examples of play are be be produced now.

I met with Brian Youse at MMP on Monday for an update on production. We both expect RE to be listed for preorders by the end of the year. I anticipate this game making its preorder number pretty quickly, but that' really up to you guys. I would greatly appreciate your support by preordering as soon as it's available.

So, after a year's delay, looks like this little OCS game will finally be produced.

Thanks to everyone for your support.

Yes, I will post updates as they develop.

I am not familiar with BBG. How would you guys suggest that I best market Reluctant Enemies here?
