Would it be possible to add gl_XXXX as a protected tag to the system?

So "gl_" would become a protected prefix that only the system could generate. XXXX is the number of the geeklist which contains the game.

Idea being that now I have a way to find games that are on one list or on multiple lists.

This isn't a perfect way to do dynamic searching, but it seems like a doable workaround.

Not really. I have for instance a geeklist of 4x4 games.

http://boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/16754/games-played-on-a-4x...

So each game would get marked by system with a tag "gl_16754". Or so it would seem anyway...

Now I go to the "Search box" on the tool bar and search using "tags" dropdown for gl_16754 and I get a multiple page list of all the board games on that list which is easy to cut and paste into excel.

Now the "tag" could either be a "real" tag or a "pseudo" tag which queries that geeklist. So prefix "gl_" would have to system reserved to keep tags from getting all fouled up by using tagging a game with gl_16754 when the game isn't on that geeklist.

Now I could do lookup using Excel to see which games are on multiple Geeklists according to what ever criteria I want to use.

Hopes that explains crazy notion better....

Yes thank you. That works fairly well. Nice that it is all on one page.

I could cut and past that into a text file.
Replace "board game:" with "/"
Replace "added by" with "/"
replace "on" with "/"

Then import file into Excel breaking columns on "/"

Still have to run a macro on on all columns to trim leading and trailing blanks just to be sure.

Took a while of fiddling around, but it finally dawned on me that the voodoo that got the list was to append "?titlesonly=1" after the "normal" geeklist name.

Like a fool I tried cutting and pasting the line and that didn't work. I could click on your line and that worked fine.

Ah, yes. It's on every GeekList now, but it's quite a new feature. Maybe a month old?

Also, you can retrieve GeekList data via the XML API.

For example: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/xmlapi/geeklist/16754

This way you should be able to completely automate getting a list of games in a GeekList. If you need help with XML, you can post in the discussion thread: BoardGameGeek XML API

Thanks for the XML pointer. Another way to skin the cat.
