Hi,

My brother teaches 3rd grade science. I'm curious if there are any games that might be fun but also educational that he could work into the classroom. Boardgames are fine, as are card games. The classes are only an hour long, maybe a little more. Here are what I think would be the requirements.

- An hour max length
- Educational, but entertaining and fun
- Not too off color, it is 3rd grade at a public school
- Any number of players is ok, anything over 1
- Must be science or language arts in nature
- Not extremely reading intensive so the majority of the kids can play
- Card games or board games, but nothing that requires booster packs

If anything comes to mind let me know. I was thinking about checking out EcoFluxx but I need more ideas, he needs more than one game.

Thanks-

I really can't think of a single thing for science. Word on the Street Junior could work for language arts at that age

Thanks for the suggestion. I may be out of luck for a science game, can't really find anything.

Zendo. You don't need pyramids to play, just gather a sizable quantity of legos or whatnot. You might suggest types of rules and encourage cooperative play, because a "master" can make this ridiculously difficult if s/he is out to crush the guessers hypothesis testers.

I haven't tried it yet, but Phylo is a print-and-play "collectable" card game in the style of Pokemon/Magic created with science in mind.

You should also look at the Sierra Madre Games catalog, although many of their games might be too complex for the 3rd grade.
