This edition is in french only, sorry for that. modest

We are working on an english/deutch edition for 2012.

French Rules will be available in the beginning of october, a few days before Essen.

But the designer started to post some informations (still in french) on his blog : http://fief3.fr/

I don't think you can.
New board (fiefs and bishoprics changes), new cards, new combat rules with special dices, new personnages (6 women and 12 men).

Perhaps you could use some of the new rules, but it will probably introduce unbalances.

We started to work on english translation last week.
We hope to put online an english version BEFORE essen, and perhaps we will have some quick printed exemplaries on our stand.

An important information :
There is no text on playing materials, even playing cards, only icons.
( Only characters french names are printed on their counter : Aliénore, Mireille, Thierry, etc. )
So if you know or own the rules you can play with the french edition ;)

Great news Thierry! I'm thinking of pre-ordering for Essen, but my French isn't good enough and I would love to read the rules before. I understand that you want to complete the layout (it's gorgeous!) but a 'raw' translation would be appeciated as well .

Home made, so the translation must be far away to perfection.

No, it's not a game relevant stuff, don't panic ! :)
this are just historical notes about the clothes. Each costume of the nobles is historicaly accurate. These are technical explications of this, but there are too many complicated middle ages clothes words, we need a specialist to translate them, but we didn't have enough time to find him before Essen.

soon online.

Here in simple text :

The relics

Nothing beats a part of a saint, be it bone, hairs, blood or any object that belonged to him during his life to do wonders.
Those holy relics are secretly guarded by canons in the cathedral's crypt of the bishoprics' county towns. Only bishops and cardinals can grab them.
At the beginning of the game, place the 5 relics at random face down on each of the bishoprics' county town: Sigy, Blaye, Tournus, St Gérome and Bourg.
Each relic gives a different bonus that the owner can use at will. The bishop of the bishopric, any cardinal, or the pope can get it by coming on the bishoprics' county town. Return the relic face up, the lord gets the control of the relic. It can be given, sold, exchanged to another lord. A relic can only be moved by a lord. A relic cannot be destroyed. If a relic is alone face up (imagine for example that the owner dies of a calamity), the first lord arriving on the village gets the control of the relic. If the relic's owner is dead but some of his troops are still alive, they defend the relic, but as long as no lord takes the relic, it cannot be used. In a fight with a coalition, if all the lords of the player owning the relic die, the relic passes immediately to another lord of the same side.

Relics effects:
The Holy Grail
Defensive Power, can only be used in a fight if the owner didn't initiate the fight, nor is part of the initiating side.
Every time someone throws a dice to damage the army with the Grail, the result of this dice is diminished of one. A 0 stays a 0. The relic has to be on the site of the fight.
Example: The opponent attacks with three dices and gets 0,1 and 2, as the defender has the holy grail, it becomes 0, 0, 1, for a total of 1 damage.

The Holy Spear (1)
At each fighting round, add 1 damage to the result of your dices. The relic has to be on the site of the fight.

Teeth of Saint Geronce
Unique usage, once during the game: resurrect a lord who just died. This action has to be announced right as the lord dies. Remove the relic from the game.

Eyes of Sainte Roseline (2)
Allows you to move the Heavy Rain at the end of the calamities Phase.
Only one try per Heavy Rain card and per turn.
The player controlling the relic choses the Heavy Rain he wants to move and throws a dice to determine the new location of the calamity. If the result is 6 or the number of the bishopric the Heavy Rain was on previously, the calamity doesn't move.

Bone of Sainte Radegonde (3)
Allows to remove Famines at the end of the calamities phase.
Only one try per Famine card and per turn.
The player controlling the relic designs the Famine(s) he wants to remove. For each of them he throws 1D6 , on a result of 4,5 or 6 discard the calamity.

(1)Discovered below a slab from the Saint-Peter Church in Antioche (Turkey), the discovery of this relics galvanized the Crusaders who were fighting the Saracens (1098, first crusade).
(2)After a long time of droughts, the rain comes back.... all thanks to a procession with the relics of St Roseline de Villeneuve (var, Castle of Arcs, 1263-1329).
(3)Queen of the Francs (529-587). Abbess of the abbey of Sainte-Croix de Poitiers. The Oat Miracle: trying to hide in a field of oat freshly sown, the oat grew instantly to conceal her.
