Before I place my preorder, may I ask if the game - under the complex rules - is playable in one sitting i.e. in up to 5 hours?

Sorry for the late reply (not sure why I'm not getting these notices...), however, my answer is, unfortunately, no. The Advanced Game will take, as a guess, 16-20 hours to play to conclusion (assuming all turns are played).

The Standard Game campaign game is probably 8-10 hours of play.

There are 3 small scenarios, easily played in an evening - probably 2-3 hours. The Inchon Again scenario is playable in 15-20 minutes (it's one, abbreviated turn - more of a learning scenario).

No problem, thanks for the answer.

20 hours is a bit too long for my tastes so I guess I will - regrettably - pass on this one (for now!).

I will keep an eye on the game - it looks too interesting to let it go just like that.

I understand. Note, however, that the game can end considerably sooner if the DPRK earns enough VP (or takes the appropriate hexes - Seoul) to roll on the Automatic Victory table (in essence, a political victory fueled by military success).

There is also a scenario which combines the three small ones mentioned into a larger one. That one would probably take 5-6 hours to play.
