OKAY

I have a $25 gift certificate from James by Games at the Mall of America...

What are the best games for under $25 retail?

Guillotine is a fast and fun card game about executing nobility during the French Revolution (Retails for 10$-15$). If you are looking for a filler type game it isn't a bad choice.

Pit is a fun fast game for 3-8 people if you have a big group.

+1 for Guillotine

+1 for the Mall of America (from a fellow Minnesotan)

I highly recommend 1955: The War of Espionage for just under $25. It is a two player card and board game that features maneuvering, hand management and card combos to take control of countries in a heads up style of play.

Disclaimer: While I did publish it through my company, it is also one of my favorite games and people are enjoying it now that it has officially been released.

Two very good games with very different mechanics that I would recommend are:
Glen More- A tile placement game that is easy to learn, has great playability and scales well from 2 to 4 players. One of my favorites.

Glory to Rome- A card game that has a lot of different paths to victory and scales well. Some people are bothered by the artwork but it doesn't bother me in the least as I find the game mechanics to be very enjoyable.

I'm guessing only Lost Cities would be carried by Games by James out of all of those (not that they are bad suggestions otherwise).

I've seend these games at GbJ before:
The Resistance
Citadels (actually anything/everything by FFG. Looks like you have a lot of their stuff I'm sure you could find something to add there.)
Hive
Forbidden Island
Bohnanza
Carc + Expansions

Forbidden Island
Perry Rhodan: The Cosmic League

or if you are a wargamer, you might want:
Special Ops Issue 1 magazine, which includes 2 games:
Raphia and Savage Streets

or one of the Pocket Battles games

Also worth considering:
Expedition Altiplano
Space Hulk: Death Angel – The Card Game
Onirim

I have to add my support to this too.
This game is a real gem that exemplifies the "social deduction" genre.
