If you're a writer and you really want to come up with an arresting name for one of your characters, it's hard to do better than to base it on a geographical location. For some reason, these names are both appealing and very memorable. Consequently, there's a bunch of them. Hence, this Chit Chat Challenge.
List a fictional character with a geographical name. It can be either a first or last name. I have no problem with defining "geographical" as broadly as possible, so if you want to venture to outer space or use mythical locations, that's fine.
Let's see how many names we can get. Just post one at a time and wait a few minutes to let others catch up before you try again.
I'll start things off with the most obvious one: Indiana Jones.
It was an invention for the book (then movie)"The Hustler". Then a real hustler (Rudy Wanderone) started claiming he was the real Minnesota Fats and was known by that name the rest of his life. He achieved a great deal of fame in his time as well and milked the name for all it was worth. There was a lot of enmity between him and Willie Mosconi, though he wasn't half the player Mosconi was. And they met for a competition on ABC's Wide World of Sports in 1978 and it got 11 Million viewers. One of the biggest audiences in ABC's history. Willie won the match handily but Fats charmed everyone.
