I've been playing three separate games of Here I Stand on VASSAL/ACTS/DropBox and I have got to say that this game could be shaping up to be my favorite CDG ever.

The point.

I'm playing the Papacy/Hapsburgs in two games and the Protestants in a 6 player game, just the other day I was wishing I knew what the pope might actually say when he excommunicated the King of France.

I was wondering if you guys could help me with period statements I could use in my ACTS turns to "punch up" the theme of the game.

Like

Your Emperor commands it to be done (the way Charles V might have said it)

or

I declare thee excommunicate

That sort of thing.....

Thanks in advance.

Actually, more Greek was spoken throughout the Empire than Latin. Only Rome and the immediate surrounding peninsula spoke Latin.

Actually, no, the whole western half spoke Latin, while Greek was the common language of the eastern half. Thus Spanish, French, and Rumanian are all Romance Languages.

Unless you're saying something other than what I think, that should be Vox aleae. Genitive case.

Most of the Latin phrases in this thread, unfortunately, are not the sorts of things the Pope would say.

When defeating a Protestant debater, you could say,

"'Stande hier Ich', dicis? immo, huc torres!" ("Here I stand," you say? Nay, here you burn!)

Paenite! = repent! (plural: paenitete!)
peccatum = sin
peccator = sinner
te excommunico = I excommunicate you
libri tui urant = may your books burn
cave piratas infides = beware heathen pirates
discidium diffiteor = i deny the divorce
quid agis, Carole? = What are you doing,Charles?
