Yup, it just Yahtzee with Cthulhu paint over it. Well, if Yahtzee had a boss monster, item cards, monster tokens, and different players with their own powers and stats.

But yeah, it's just Cthulhu Yahtzee.

Cthulhu Dice is closer to your "Cthulhu Yahtzee" than Elder Sign is. Or "Cthulhu LCR" anyway.

Unfortunately you are not represented in the game. Lots of monsters. No trolls.

I think if that is all you see then you are doing your "Game Designer" tag an injustice.

I'v eno idea why it says game designer since i've never professed to be one. But given that this game revolves around an entirely random dice roll my point still stands. If that's what people enjoy then so be it, but i'd like more strategy.

It says Game Designer because you have apparently designed some games and an admin has linked your account to them. If you click on the badge it will take you to a page that lists those games. If you are not actually that designer or you don't want the credit, I believe that you can contact an admin and ask for the badge to be removed.

5 Card Stud Poker, Magic the Gathering, and Duck, Duck, Bruce are all the same game since they use a randomly drawn hand of cards.

Earth Reborn is just Monopoly since they both use a board made of cardboard and you have to roll dice.

Hammer of the Scots and Settlers of Catan are identical because you have to place wooden pieces on a board.

Looks like I should just cancel my order for Fortune & Glory since it's the same game as Risk what with the dice and world map for a gameboard and all.

Yeah, Cthulhu Yahtzee is really reductive and not really all that accurate. The only similarities are 'dice rolling'. Yahtzee doesn't have variable goals for your dice that will change each game. As well as a constant flow of these goals, rather than Yahtzee's static dozen(?). Yahtzee doesn't have cards you can acquire to add more dice. Yahtzee doesn't give you characters that sometimes let you manipulate dice as you need to. Yahtzee doesn't have a constant threat that you have to keep on top of looming over you, and your fellow players....Yahtzee also isn't cooperative. Yahtzee doesn't have unexpected changes to your dice goals(monsters). And on and on...

Comeon, how many thousands of games could you be glib and snarky about by reducing them to 'You need dice to go your way to do well'?

Of course i'm being contentious. But the random aspect concerns me. Random parts in games IMO need to be within the strategy, not the strategy defined by pure chance.

I honestly don't think this game is any less random than any other adventure type game, Arkham Horror included.

True rolling dice is meant to be random, but before and after rolling you do have a number of options and choices to make in order to influence those odds. Some cards straight up allow you to change the result of a die. Resource management is just as big a factor in this game as the random rolls.

I was sceptic at first as well but after playing the game it really clicked with me, at least solo. Now I need to see how it clicks with my wife and friends.

Plus in the CoC'verse, sometimes things go bad and you can't control it.

Yes, in the same way that Pretty Woman is a porno.

Pretty much, and unlike many other FFG games with dice you don't have to spend 5 hours doing it.

I'd be more concerned about the fact that one of the first things you see after clicking the badge is "This person is a user".

I immediately thought that the OP hasn't played Elder Sign and therefor is unfamiliar with it. It's clear to me now that he is unfamiliar with Yahtzee.
