This has been discussed before, but I'm going to try to collect all the pearls of wisdom about this. I'll summarize the pearls of wisdom into some wiki page later too.

This is also part of an effort to standardize tags.

----------------------------------
SUMMARY

Search Field

(1) You can search on multiple tags by using a blank space between them using the Search (Tags dropdown) then the desired tags in the entry field.

So searching on: tag 4x4 will give you a list of games that anyone has marked with the "4x4" tag.

Searching on: tags 4x4 abstract will give you a list of games that have both the "4x4" tag and the "abstract" tag. Note that there is a space between the two tags. Also the tags could have been entered by two different users.

Muliple tags on browser bar

In the above example searching on 4x4 results in the following search bar request to BBG:

http://boardgamegeek.com/tag/4x4

So if you go to the menu bar and type in +abstract then hit the enter key. You get a search on 4x4 abstract again.

http://boardgamegeek.com/tag/4x4+abstract

Using your tags

(1) Select My Geek>>Tags

You get a display of the tags that you used and a list of all the games that you have tagged with the tags that you have applied to each. Notice the search bar in the web browser:

http://boardgamegeek.com/tags/user/herace

My used ID is herace. Now I click on 4x4 in list of my tags and I get a count of the tags which I have used in association with 4x4. Notice the web browser has changed to:

http://boardgamegeek.com/tag/4x4/user/herace

Now I get a second list box which has a list of the tags which I have used in association with 4x4. If I click on "abstract" in the associated tag list I don't get list of things which wwere tagged with "4x4" and "abstract", but rather just the things which I have tagged as "abstract". Notice that after the click on "abstract" that the web browser has changed to:

http://boardgamegeek.com/tag/4x4/user/herace

So the interface just allows you to select one tag at a time for counts.

(2) Counts on multiple terms in your tags

Although the window controls won't let you mouse select multiple terms, you can insert extra terms by typing in the web browser. So by typing in "+abstract" in web browser into line above I created:

http://boardgamegeek.com/tag/4x4+abstract/user/herace

Now I get tag count for all games where the game was tagged with "4x4" and "abstract".

http://boardgamegeek.com/tag/4x4+abstract+buy/user/herace

Gives me count on games I tagged with "4x4", "abstract", and "buy".

(3) Odd, but you can rename a tag to create two tags. So change name of tag "own" to "fred sam" and you convert what had been one tag into two.

Do anybody know if it is possible to search for games that do not have a certain tag?

In my example above using 4x4 abstract gives games that have both abstract and 4x4 tag.

How do I find games with 4x4 tag that do not have the abstract tag?

You can find out who tagged a game with a particular tag.

(1) OPen up game record
(2) In tags section click on the [view all] at the end of "common tags"
(3) in the list of all tags, click on the number for the tag of interest.

------------
Same trick works for images

(1) open image as individual image
(2) on line with tags click on [view all]
(3) in the list of all tags, click on the number for the tag of interest.

Did you ever find out any way to do this? It would be really neat.

While I have your ear ... any way to rapidly tag multiple games with the same tag? Useful for those times I decide a new dichotomy with which to classify my games. It's tiring to open the profile page for every game, jump down to the tags section, click to add the tag and save.

I don't know how. I am hesitant to say impossible since there are so many odd features in BGG.
