I have painted a few D&D minis(metal), but I have never tried to paint a whole game set with plastic minis.
I want to get started.
What is the easiest way to do this?
I have read a few posts on this topic here on BGG.I have some ideas on procedure.

What is the least expensive paint for this that will not make my wife angry $$$?

I want to finish painting mine... 4 sets, 3 old, 1 new.

I started with a black primer coat, Krylon flat black.
I then looked through the forums and online for images and uniform ideas.
I use acrylic paints as the brushes clean up with water.
Michael's Craft store was more than happy to sell me two sets of brushes and a basket of paints... about a large shoebox full.
My rule is each mini needs to have a minimum of 4 colors, most have 5 to 7... from 3ft away they look nice.
My wife has not complained much outside of the number of miniatures cluttering our common areas.
I should have used a lighter primer for the Union figures as the navy blue I wanted to use came out too dark so I had to modify the color some by adding sky blue, white and sometimes grey.
I have not started the Confederates yet.

The easiest way to finish quickly is to setup an assembly line.
Paint all figures or item on each figure with one color at a time.
By the time you get to the last figure the first ones will be dry enough to handle.

Time and motivation are my enemies... and will likely be yours too.

I use grey primer for everything... it even gives another shade of grey if you miss something on your rebs.

EUREKA!
I just discovered minwax wood finish.wow

I have been practicing with primers, and cheap acrylics on plastic green army men.
I tried some different wash techniques.
Then I found an old can of wood stain I had in the back of the cabinet.WOW!
That really pops the detail instantly.
I know it is a cheap trick but I will use it.ninja

I used also blue primer for my US units and grey primer for the CS.
So the US was already painted about 50% and the CS 80%

After painting the other things, i used the Army Painter ink, to finish it.

So i painted all miniatures within 1 week

A clearer view of the detail in the figures.Eight colors on the infantry but I kind of rushed on the cavalry.

I finished painting and making my 3d hex tiles.
I played Wilson's creek today solo.(WC is about 10 miles from my house.)
I really enjoy this game.
After lots of fun work, I have a Great looking game set!
