Cancer is one of the things that may just not be treated if you have no insurance (or lots of money). If you have an injury and show up at the hospital, they'll patch you up. You can't just show up at an emergency room for cancer treatment. You can't just go to a nice doctor either (sorry Dr. Paul).

There is an "amusing" parallel to what is said in the video about the "silence from the stage" and lack of response to this thread.

We live in a society where people may die because of their socioeconomic standing. That has to change because those people may have been a victim of lay offs, greed, pride, and all those other evils out there. However it is going to happen as long as we live the way we do.

Maybe I'm wrong though for wanting a socialist utopia

I suspect that the high unemployment rate is going to change the tone on this for the election.

There are probably a lot of people who would have answered the question callously, but who now have no job and cannot afford to keep paying COBRA, provided their 18 months isn't up.

You have to wonder how long the GOP can keep courting people who think they're going to be rich someday.

I (and I believe many others on RSP) do not consider a post consisting of a single link as having any content at all.
I would consider the lack of response as having more to do with the format of the OP rather then any content (or lack thereof) of the link in question.

The really appalling thing in that debate is the clapping that celebrated death.

It's like the audience was full of Executioners from Texas.

This is the type of bleeding heart bullshit I cannot believe you swallow.

With NO healthcare and NO insurance he got radiation treatment and therapy. What more do you want? Don't pretend he was told "Go die". That is what you want to hear, but that isn't what happened

Do you eat more than 1500 calories per day? Are you sending all your extra food to people who are starving? Was your answer "Yes" then "No"? There lies the bullshit disconnect you seem to have but turn a blind eye to. Your tag line is "The Government will take care of them so I don't have to". So they will do the dirty work and make rainbows appear on a whim. Newsflash they = us. WE are the Government. If YOU don't do it NOW, you WON'T do it when YOU are in power. Why? Because the reality is, YOU don't want to sacrifice jack shit. You'd like to say "oh dear, how terrible, someone should really do something about that." But "someone" isn't you is it?

Just like there a individual limitations on what you can, will and should do, the government also has limitations.

Yeah, I'd prefer paying half of what we do now so that every one of our countrymen could get full care... just like every other first world country. Instead, we as taxpayers pay for the most expensive treatments(elderly and ER non insurance) while the insurance companies cover the healthiest, deny and drop coverage to the least profitable, and make billions upon billions in profit.

So yeah, if the government had those profits, it would cover the expenses of the sickest and elderly, and we'd be able to cover everyone. Just like every other first world country.

I agree fully with the notion that 'we' ARE the government, especially as it is somewhat surprising to hear that sentiment from an American (which presumably you are). However that does not imply that there are some things that are btter arranged collectively rather than individually. Most people who are not libertarians realise this, and that the best way to effectuate colective affairs is via the government. Afterall, the government is US. Of course the government also has limitations but in the case of health care it is abundantly clear that -to provide healthcare to the entire popopulation- the government IS the best tool WE have to achieve that goal. It works in just about all indsutrialised nations, and there is no reason it cannot work in the US.

Therefore it is silly to insist that because a particular person does not engage in voluntary activity and sacrificy for other healthcare, they are not eligable to campaign for universal (government provided) healthcare.See also, Warren Buffet.

I have to agree and say this is a real irritant for me. Even on the news sites I skip stories that are all video. It's a slow and inefficient way to consume information and it is antithetical to multitasking. Give the video and a block of text explaining the video and if it fits my interests I'll get back to the video to get the context when I have time.

I can get more information faster from a well written block of text then I can from a news video. Now, if we are talking about an "Experience" video that has to be seen in order to grok the issue (like footage of an event actually occurring) then I am more tolerant, but still, throw some context text in with it so I don't dismiss it outright without knowing. For all we know the OP is trying to Rick-roll us.

Agreed.

Its wierd, but I don't think that I really 'understand' something unless I READ it. There are exceptions, but most of the time, to be honest, when I watch a 'news' clip on a YouTube or on TV, I'm always thinking- whats the context? How did they edit this? What I am missing? And its hard to go off and look online to get another opinion while the video is going becuase my computer is old and slow and the internet connection at the coffee shop slows down when tons of people are all playing World of Warcraft.

So, I just skip over threads where the OP is just a video. Unless you've given me a transcript along with it so I can verify/follow along, I just assume that these things are so hideously edited for partisan purposes as to be useless to me.
