Today, we're all Spaniards!

I've been selling on EBay, culling the shelves, and one of my buyers hadn't paid several days after auction end. I sent him a couple of notes, indicating that I'd cancel the transaction, permitting us both our freedom, if he'd just contact me.

Trying to be a nice guy here.

So, he sent me an email today, which read (paraphrase):

"I don't remember bidding on this item, and I made a promise to my wife I wouldn't buy any new stuff until after 10/10/11. She'll kill me if she finds out. If I did bid on it, I'm sorry and will send you money. Sorry for the confusion."

So I sent a note back saying, (paraphrased)

"No problem friend, I've experienced similar situations myself! I see you just paid, shortly after sending your e-mail! Thanks! I'll pop this in the mail to you tomorrow. You might consider hiding the package in the trunk of your car until things blow over! Works for me! Good luck with the wife!"

Now the ethical question: Would it be evil of me to send the item priority mail, with signature required? devil

When asking "What would Jesus do?", remember that flipping over tables and using a whip are within the realm of possibilities.

Yeah, signature with priority, but make it out to "Mrs. Soandso" so his wife is the one that the mailman gets to sign it.

Ask the guy what his work address is and send it there. Not sure why everyone here wasn't to be dicks about this. Cut the guy some slack and work with him.

FedEx it, direct signature required to his wife, with some note about this being some present for her sent from him.

Then, all you have to do is step outside and wait for the mushroom cloud. whistle

Make whatever arrangements to send the game so that his wife won't find out...

...and then send another, different game, as well, for free, to his home address. Include an invoice to make it look like he paid a lot for it.

If you're gonna be a dick, leave 'em scratching their heads.

Send it with a note that says:

"Congratulations on the winning number! Enclosed is the game you won. Enjoy!"

Then she knows he got it, thinks its free, and he doesn't have to wait to play it.

You know, in further thinking about this, joking aside:

I'll send his package wherever he wants, but it won't address his core issue, which is hiding things from his spouse. This guy shouldn't be deceiving his wife. He needs to fess up, and admit what he did.

Even if it's a momentary lapse, let me ask the following question: Will she respect him more or less, if he tells her the truth? Now, flip the question around: Will she respect him more or less, when she discovers he's been hiding things?

We obviously don't know his full situation, but that's my view. Relationships first.

Although I'll send this to his work, if he wants, he'd probably benefit more from a clear package, sent to the house, signature required. Maybe then, he'd start talking and walking straight, and practice some accountability.

Jokes aside - I'd want no less for myself.

I've been in his shoes, and much, much worse. The best thing anyone ever did for me was to call me out regarding my BS. Stop hiding, and start talking. Work it out.

Joseph.
