Our first game, Wasteland, will finally hit Kickstarter... soon. After receiving so much amazing feedback during Gen Con we're ready to move forward with our (thus far successful by our measure) backwards approach to launching our first game. Why is it backwards? We exhibited at Gen Con with our prototype with hopes of gauging interest, receiving feedback, and beginning our journey down the long road of getting the word out about it. This seems to be different from most publishers (indie and otherwise) who bring their finished products which the potential buyers have had little to no involvement in. We're oddballs like that...

In line with that same ideology we want to know what YOU would like to see for Kickstarter rewards! While the actual dollar amounts are not listed, we are still hoping to see which rewards everyone values; common sense should typically apply to how most of these rewards would be priced.

We will also be utilizing a system where you get to choose which rewards you would like rather than telling you what you will get at each (non-limited) level. It occurs to us that is how we would like to participate in others' KS projects and so we're wondering if you feel the same way.

Without further delay, please let us know via this poll and your response exactly what's rolling around in your head.

Poll: What Kickstarter rewards would you be most interested in?
What Kickstarter rewards would you be most interested in?
Thanks

We're uploading pictures to the Wasteland profile, so check them out when you get a chance. More details will be put up about the game (as well as some reviews) as we get closer to kicking off our Kickstarter project.

Let us know what you think about some of the possible rewards we're tossing around. Ask us questions about the game if you have any.

The big thing is to make sure that your game is the first reward, so that nothing else gets in the way of that. If you've convinced people they want to support your game, it's because they want your game.

Free shipping (within the US) is also a requirement for Kickstarter projects. You have to budget that in.

Thanks for the advice Sam! (And again congrats on Lyssan)

A couple of thoughts: We wanted to have something before the game to attract those who don't have the cash for it right now or just want to get some of the promo stuff...

We were also toying with another idea; sort of a "select your own reward" system where backers get to pick a reward from a pool of rewards with similar values. They could do this multiple times for an additional amount or at different levels. It has gotten mixed reviews though as some would prefer to just have a fixed reward at each level and others love the idea as they would then be getting exactly what they want.

Thanks! And I get where you're coming from on wanting to offer choices and have a reward for everybody.

Folks more experienced with KS campaigns than I recommend keeping the rewards list short and simple. If people are comparing 4 different rewards, each with their own paragraph of text, looking for what the difference between them is, that just gets frustrating. I suspect you could do something like, "The base game, plus one reward from list A, and one from list B" (With more fun list names) and that might work, though I didn't try it myself.

One thing to keep in mind with offering a plethora of rewards is that you're on the hook to produce them all. Imagine you have one reward that's cheap and easy to produce in mass but a pain to craft a few, and another that takes forever to make. Murphy's Law guarantees that you'll get just one or two folks asking for the first reward, and tons asking for the second.
