This morning an old man and a young woman came into my shop. She clearly had a lot wrong with her, but tragically, she had a beard, moustache and the connecting bits in between. He was sprouting everywhere, so I guessed it was genetic. But the poor woman.

What made me feel even sadder was the realisation that 100 years ago, she could have made a decent living. Not fun, but profitable. Today, she has all the same problems and none of the benefits.

I used to date a bearded woman back in the day. She was very cool and very attractive. She struggled for many years to deal with her hairiness snd shaved regularly. Eventually she deecided she needed to embrace that aspect of herself and deal with it.

She wasn't totally full on Kenny Rogers beard, but it was certainly noticable.

No, it was her dad. He was very odd.

One of my ex girlfriends has slightly noticeable "fuzz" on her top lip.

I have also seen one or two bearded ladies around.

Many many years ago, I went to Moscow and Leningrad. I was served in the Moscow PO by two very hirsute women. But it's nothing I've ever seen at home.

Poor woman what? Most men deal with the same thing in the same way on a daily basis -- water, soap, lather, razor. Depending on how quickly it grows in for her, she might not even have a 5 o'clock shadow.

Oh no! Shaving is a mistake. Pluck, wax or have it treated some other way. Shaving will only make it more noticeable and force you to keep shaving. It's common for women during menopause or peri-menopause to start getting secondary male characteristics, such as getting a beard and mustache.

Back when I was a raw youth and working behind a counter I had a regular customer whose wife had a moustache, and I don't mean some Frida Kahlo fuzz, I mean a mustache that could have been a stunt double for Tom Selleck's in Magnum P.I. I was pretty shocked the first time I saw it, but after a while I got used to it, even to the point that sometimes I completely forgot about it.

If I made distortion pedals, I'd make damned sure I named one "Frida Kahlo fuzz".
