Her debut was '04 and her breakout was '07. I assume she had an underground following well before that? But I agree with the above that she's very talented - although even The Reminder was a hit-or-miss with me, unfortunately.

You must not be a football fan. She did a commercial for Apple a few years ago that was shown during every freakin' commercial break during games.

That song makes me think of thumb wrestling.

Her debut was in '99 (http://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/feist/monarch__lay_yo...) if you don't count her first band Placebo (not the one that everyone knows).
In 2002 Broken Social Scene's second record was one of the biggest indie hits of the year (http://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/broken_social_scene/y...). This is where most people (myself included) discovered her.
Both of her songs on the second Kings of Convenience record were brilliant (http://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/kings_of_convenience/...)

Right now, the coolest thing is the James Blake cover of Limit to Your Love. It's right up there with Jose Gonzalez's cover of The Knife's Heartbeat for cross genre tracks.

Wow, I've heard both those acts and wasn't aware of her contribution. Was she more of a collaborator - like Tunstall with Oi Va Voi? or an actual band member?

Slooooow down. I mean, the BGG crowd here has enough trouble just identifying with REM. Baby steps.

BSS is Brendan Canning and Kevin Drew, but when that second record came out it was touted as a supergroup of unknown Canadian acts. So it was hard to say who was a member and who was a collaborator then. I think she was a member then, just as I think she was a member of Peaches.

She was just a guest on the KoK record and did some sweet collaborations on the Dark was the Night comp (a must have record).

What?! I *LIKE* bangs on women!

(Although, to be fair, I have a hunch that Jenny Lewis...of Rilo Kiley and her own solo career...had as much to do with the current trend as Feist)

I like bangs too, but I think Cook was complaining about TRENDY bangs, which is an entirely different thing.

Wait, why are we arguing about bangs?

edit: also, not to sound like a hipster, but I've liked Feist since back when she was doing vocals for Broken Social Scene.

edit edit: nevermind, that does make me sound like a hipster.

You did a good job of pointing out the differences between styles of bangs. I think that is accurate.

That being said, I still hate bangs. shake

If you've stopped listening to music then it isn't surprising. That said you would have been 24 when that second BSS record came out.

Just a quick update: I've heard a few cuts from her just released effort, Metals, and I like it. Very eclectic and higher energy, not as poppy as the previous release.
