Allied Forces were repelled in their advance towards St-Lo by the superior German forces of the 9th and 5th Parachute Regiments, punctuated with precision artillery strikes and the remaining elements of one Panzer division.
The objective of Hill 192 stayed just out of the reach of the Allies. The 38th Infantry of the 2nd US Division, supported by the 741st Tank Battalion and the 2nd Engineer Combat Battalion, working in conjunction with the 23rd Infantry, failed to take both la Croix-Rouge and la Soulair as well. The Allies lost nearly every armored unit, several infantry, and the entire engineer battalion.
By the end of the day, German forces were better entrenched than prior to the battle, holding more ground than previously and leaving the Allies empty-handed.
The overall tide of the war finds the Axis pulling ahead in overall Victory Points, the score of the battle 6-4, giving the Germans a total of 24 points compared to the Allies own 20.
Another great session. My wife, Helenoftroy, kept up the offensive through-out the game, nabbing her victory points through cunning play and out of this world dice rolls.
And, without meaning to, we actually played a session that took place on this very day some 61 years ago.
