exactly! While with four player the first one start playing 1 more time than the other!
In fact, do you find it's an advantage or a disadvantage to be the first player? You choose the highlight first but you put your last card before everyone else?
Try a few 2 player games and don't alternate first (in other words, give someone the gold coin for the entire game). Picking the best sideline/highlight won't overcome the advantage going last has. Going last means a slightly smaller choice of sidelines and perhaps some locked highlights, but this is offset by the fact you have a definite advantage in winning a highlight and collecting the midfield prize.
When you play last you can look at the matchups you're in, figure out where you stand and where your last player will have the most effect. Your calculations can't be perfect because cheat tokens are still face down you place your last player - but that's true for everyone regardless of where you play in the rotation.
The key is that as last player, you know that no one can knock down/injure or take the ball from that final player and you know no one can increase their star power at the matchup afterwards. That last player will be worth 3-5 (or more) where you play him and that should swing a highlight to your favour unless really good or bad luck has already locked them for or against you and your last player won't make a difference (not something that happens very often)
I don't think that going first or last one time more or less than the other players is a game-breaking difference... but going last does have definite advantages.
