My friend pointed out something which I had not seen concerning the Home Support card. On the final page of the rules booklet is says:

"The Two Home Support cards are not added to the Empire decks until a village cube or town disc is captured by either player either as a result of raid or siege."

"Historical Note - the conflict being simulated was initially one of colonial expansion placing financial demands on the home governments. Once there were skirmishes on the frontiers, both the French and the English were more willing to support the colonies for geopolitical reasons"

WTF? IS THIS TRUE? Though, not sure it would change anything since reserving pem and stmaries, and buying infinity military units and sieging port royal would allow it to be added pretty darn quick.

...?! This would change things considerably. I actually really like this rule, if it truly exists.

Perhaps this is the forthcoming rulefix from Martin..?!? I would certainly do quite a bit to take the lead out of the Halifax Hammer. Brilliant change, if so.

I give that attempt 6/10.

The rule would be in the starting the game section, not on the last page.

Thinking about this some more...I REALLY like this. It totally makes the French settle rush (which I've always believed is the cheapest way to win this game, Halifax Hammer aside) to be way less practical. I always hated how the French could intendant back HS into their hand and use it again. Totally lame.

I just checked mine, it's not there. ...might you have some forthcoming "second edition" ruleset perhaps?

I certainly will try this variant in my next games... to see in which ways it might provide a solution to the British thin deck HLQ rush with Home Support abuse (aka Halifax Hammer) problematic.

Thanks for this nice proposition.

It is written in invisible ink (visible only under UV light) at the bottom of page 3, in order to prevent the secret falling into enemy hands...since it has been discovered, in future editions it will probably be embedded within a microdot.

Not in my rules, either, though I wish it was.

He says his sources were either Al Jazeera or Fox News - both usually pretty reliable.

True. By CNN standards, of course.

I'm confused. Is this just a favored variant, something Martin Wallace has officially proposed, something picked up on CSW, or what?

This is something someone made up to stir the pot. Because the swirling cauldron of discussion around this game clearly needs stirring.

HS cards only become available after the following conditions are met :

1) your frontline troops receive 1000 tweets of support

2) your side's FB page gets 100,000 likes

3) your ruling party's promotional video on youtube gets 1,000,000 views

Thereafter you may freely use HS in your deck.

Amen.

So it appears as though this was someone's idea of a funny joke? Or deliberate attempt to cause a stir? I'm not amused. I also notice that the OP has not returned to post in the thread any explanation for it. Not cool.

Practical jokes should not be posted in the rules forum, lest readers are mislead to believing certain rules exist.

I agree with Don Donelson - this sort of post is NOT funny at all - especially for those of us who are trying to learn the game system. Please put your humor elsewhere - perhaps under 'varients' as opposed to 'rules'.

thank you in advance for being considerate of others in the future.

I know some teenagers who "punked" some people by taking down a stop sign at an intersection- they thought it was funny. Probably because they were 14.

"punking" doesn't belong in the rules forum, if it belongs anywhere.
