Does anyone know what size (diameter) the standard wooden set's balls are?

I'm looking to create a cheap Shibumi set, and Pylos looks pretty nice (but I'd want to find similarly sized marbles) before I buy a set.

Thanks!

According to Amazon's product description, the marbles are 1" wide.

I just measured the balls in my Gigamic edition, and they seem to be almost 1" diameter indeed, maybe a little bit less. 11 of them in a line were a little over 27 centimeters... hard to measure exactly with a meter stick. I don't have calipers.

Wood, glass, and metal could be a cool combination for the 3 Shibumi colors...

heh. nope, I'm planning on buying three colors of glass marbles. I was thinking of going with http://www.landofmarbles.com/ I haven't done a search on BGG for them yet, but I will before I order. Anyone have any experience with them? Total should be less than $15 for the marbles... and half-again for shipping.

Yeah, russ, that would look cool. But the OP was looking for cheap. I did a little survey of the Net and found the following:

Pylos: 18.00 here on the Geek
1" glass marbles, 20+: 6.00 http://www.marblesmarbles.com/glass-solid-color-game-marbles... (a little further down)
1" steel balls, 10: 20.00 http://www.vxb.com/page/bearings/PROD/Kit8601

That comes to $44.00. But 10 steel balls are probably not enough. For another 10, add $20.00 for a whopping $64.00!

Compare that to:

Black Box: 10.00 here on the Geek
7/8" glass marbles, blue, 30+: 4.00
7/8" glass marbles, green, 30+: 4.00 http://www.marblesmarbles.com/glass-solid-color-game-marbles...
7/8" glass marbles, yellow, 24: 7.00 http://glassmarbles.com/solid.htm

which comes to $25.00. A considerable savings.

With the second package you can also play Akron and Margo (6x6; 8x8 with more marbles) as well as the Shibumi games.

P.S. - The 7/8" marbles fit the Black Box board quite well.
