Hi,

So someone at work posted this on our site:

LF: advice on family board games to play with 7 year old
Not sure what games are out there that are really fun and educational. Perhaps some society games? Ideas and recommendations would be welcome.

That's all the detail I have right now.

I am thinking of these, since my kids have played most of them:

Archaeology: The Card Game
Biblos
Blokus
Carcassonne
Castle Panic
Chicken Cha Cha Cha
The downfall of pompeii
Dixit
FITS
For Sale
Forbidden Island
Magic Labyrinth
North Pole
Pastiche
Qwirkle
Ticket to Ride
Undermining
Worm Up

Perhaps it's too many, but is there a good subset there, or anything better?
Being a non gamer, I think readily available, less expensive games would be better received.

Thanks

Maybe 7 wonders might be a bit a little heavy?advanced?, it's a medium weighted game. If they are casual gamers this one might be too heavy for them. But you can give it a go, and tell us how it goes.

These are some I would recommend (I play some of these games with my students)

Ubongo - extremely fun tetris puzzle game
Ghost Blitz - set collection game
SET - set collection game
Snow Tails - dog sled racing game, with math
Duplik - picture drawing game (haven't seen all the pictures so not sure if they all all age appropriate)
Take 5! - a fantastic number's game, fantastic!
Spot it! - great vocabulary quick spotting game, there are 4 game variations in the tin, and I play this with Grades 1-adults. Great!
Zooloretto Junior - great game, and it's portable, this version doesn't have the money aspect so it's easier for younger students to learn how to play

Looking at this list, I see that

The Downfall of Pompeii is a very fun game with a 'take that' feature--throwing others in the volcano no less!

Biblios is an ingenious little game with a slick auction mechanic that plays well even with only 2!

Castle Panic is a cooperative game that has monsters!

Forbidden Island another coop that has lots of theme and tension from trying to get off the sinking island.

Some of the others I don't know much about but I did see that Ender likes Worm's Up and just did a pictorial on it. I think this is a really nice collection but it would be nice to also find something new to them.
