Why are the cards valued as 4-6 and not 1-3? I really don't understand why they made it this way.

Players may bid a different number of cards. With 4-6, two low cards will always beat one high card; with 1-3, it's not the case. Thus values 1-3 would greatly increase luck.

The card values deeply affect the way bidding proceeds; play the game a bit, and it should become clearer.

OK that makes a lot more sense. I was doing the math like 6x-4x = 3x-1x, so I couldn't understand the difference. Now I understand the math is the set of 6y-4x as opposed to 3y-1x. Because those values are different it makes everything different. I don't know why it didn't occur to me. Thanks for the responses.
