Next meeting of the Ottawa Games Group is this Wednesday, December 14th
-----------------------------------------------
NOTICE!
Yes, you've been put on notice...
We will be doing our annual collection for the Sue the bartender.
This collection is COMPLETELY optional.
I will say this though ... Sue has always been on our side when the topic of sudden raises for dues has come up.

-----------------------------------------------
Is there something you would like to play?

If there is something you would like people to bring, post it here.
If there is something you are bringing that you think others would like to see post it here.

Everyone is welcome, so if you have ever thought of joining in the fun, come on out this Wednesday and check out the action.

Please Remember $2.50 goes to the Legion.

We start around 6:30.
We usually go until 9:30 or 10:00pm.
----------------------------------------------------
Question of the Fortnight

After Magic: the gathering, what is the Collectible Card Game I have the most cards of?

For me it's this...
On the Edge

Easy to learn, has a set "playmat", and can become more and more complex as the players do.
You can also build a solid deck without collecting super-rares.

How about you?

STTNG:CG? Wyvern? LOTR? Middle Earth? My Little Pony?

----------------------------------------------------
LOCATION
The address is:
Canadian Legion Branch 480 - Westboro, 389 Richmond Road, upstairs.

Google maps:
http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=r...

Please bring $2.50 for the Legion.
Please remember on Wednesday nights the Legion serves food downstairs.

--------------------------------

MEMBERSHIP IS OPTIONAL - BUT CAN HAVE IT'S PRIVILEGES!

Membership provides discounts at local retailers through a membership card system.

There are two options:
1. $5.00 to Steve Larkin in Kanata. This entitles you to the cards
2. Prepay 3 weeks for the Legion (3 X $2.50 = $7.50)**. This entitles you to the cards and provides three weeks of dues to the Legion.
**Looks like it is still $7.50.

Recommendations are as follows:
If you are going to play at the Legion at least twice, I would do the prepay.
However, if you are in the west end and do not plan to go to the Legion, I would just pay the $5.00 to Steve at KGG.
Steve goes by srlarkin on BGG.

Just geekmail or ask at a session if you are interested in the membership discount cards.

-------------------------------------------------------------

The "30 Project"
In our 15 years we have never broken 30 people. We have had three or four cases of 29 (Grrr.) So your help in the fall months -- bringing friends, thumbing the post so it gets to the front page -- is greatly appreciated. Especially now until the nasty winter weather. It is a prime time for good gaming nights.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Hope to see you on WED.

Don't forget, there is the Kanata and Orleans group as well.
*** For those of you in the South, there is an Oxford Mills group too!!!
ALSO Barrhaven group is up and running again as well!
Check in this forum for their times and locations.

Funny you should ask! I've just been building up collections of Deadlands: Doomtown and the Middle-earth, and currently a Mythos set is jetting it's way in to me from across the pond (I hope). Always wanted to try On the Edge...

I'll be there.
The only CCG I remember buying other than MtG was the Richard Garfield Vampire game based on the White Wolf RPG series if I remember correctly. Didn't buy much and didn't play more than once or twice though.
Also Marc, I am way overdue on renewing my membership. My discount cards expired Oct. 2010 (although that has never been a problem I've used them plenty since then).

Also, a group of us are interested in pitching in to buy a copy of Risk Legacy to play through as the world building scenario together. (you can check the thread out here)
We were planning to play at the OGG meetings so if anyone is interested let us know.
So far we have 3 people willing to pitch in and commit to the full 15 games;

Ideally we would like to have 5 people willing to commit to all 15 games but even if we get 1 more and/or 2 or 3 more semi committed we could easily get this off the ground.
I'm telling you this should be a pretty wild ride.
With one or two more people we could be ready to go this Wednesday.

Lemontang and I may, or may not be there. As some know, it's been a very difficult two weeks for us.

Hopefully we can take a bit of a break and enjoy some good company!

I should be there now that ball hockey is done for me.

Is anyone interested in playing Sid Meier's Civilization: The Board Game with the new expansion? It is a long one, it would be the only game of the evening most likely.

Cheers

Otherwise, Civ would be great! Noob btw.

Daryl and I would like to try to get a small (3-4 player) game of Eclipse in if possible. We are aiming to try and start at 6pm. If you want to join us let me know. Try to read the rules in advance and be there by 6pm if possible.

Bringing Labyrinth after a couple of demo learning turns. Should be ready to see how it breaks down with Emil. It has some interesting decision making and fun card combos to look for. I'm glad I bought that one.

Do Pokemon cards count as that is the most collectible cards we have. As long as you count my son's collection which he hasn't looked at in years. Don't know if those things go up in value, but can't hurt to hold on to them. Never got into the game, tried it a few times and it just didn't hold much interest. Magic never really did it for me either.

Which Mythos version?
There was one a couple years ago, and one from the 90s.

The one from the 90s. Didn't know there was one more recent - unless you mean Call of Cthulhu: The Card Game and the CCG which preceded it. I do have this as well.

Won't be able to make it to the penultimate(?) board game night of the year, unfortunately. But looking forward to more fun in 2012!!

Edit: As for the question posed, I, unfortunately own a large amount of Fullmetal Alchemist CCG cards. The game mechanics are not bad but I think being a fan of the franchise is the only way to commit yourself through the slog of the first time playing. ...I've never played twice with anybody, haha.

As did I, Trevor - sorry I didn't get back to you in time.

Played Frankendie for the first time - lots of fun. Also played Al's other game, the cats and dogs and mice one - also very fun. Then we played Domaine, a game by Settlers designer Klaus Teuber. A simple, but deep, area-of-control game. I thought I was doing pretty well, but not being able to secure four mines really hurt me in the end. Ah well - I'll know for next time.
