They are listed nowhere in the rules nor in the components list. I asked FFG Customer Support, and the only response I got was, "They are meant for The Cataclysm expansion," which is not at all helpful. Is there any purpose to these extra counters for the expansion and should I keep them separate from my normal Adventure Counter pool? If not, I suppose I'll just mix them in with those from the base game.

If it is a set of 8 counters with a comet then they were probably added to your Seven Scions deck by mistake. Those counters should have been included in The Cataclysm expansion and only have a use there.

If they are just normal green, yellow, blue and red adventure counters then they are just extras to mix in. I know a number, if not all, of the big box expansion counters came with extra adventure counters. Probably a mistake or they ran out of normal cardboard to pad the box.
