It depends. Ubongo Duel is 2-player only, so if you're playing with only 2-players, then get that one.

I think Ubongo Extreme and Ubongo the Duel are about as difficult as the other - both harder than the original Ubongo. Ubongo Extreme works just as great as a 2-player game, but is more expensive, so if I was only going to play 2-player, I would pick the Duel.

If you want ultra-difficult Ubongo, check into the 3D version!

If you don't have regular Ubongo, then start there, but it is hard to find right now. The other two are novel, but don't have staying power.

Those are the only 2 available from Z-man right now, so I was wondering which was best if I have to choose.

why?

its basically the same thing... if the two new ones don't have staying power, why should regular have staying power?

Because they're NOT the same thing.

Extreme is Hex based. For some reason, it just doesn't work as well.

Duel changes things to fit 2 player. 2 player vanilla Ubongo already fit that bill and is obviously better for other sized groups.

I personally like Ubongo Extreme better since the hex-grid is a more novel way to to play. The only strike against U Extreme is some people don'; like pulling random pt values out of the bag, even if those that finish sooner have an advantage. Regular Ubongo's track system of moving up and grabbing pts along the way is more elegant to some. I'd imagine Ubongo Duel works the same way.
