it is a different direction for art style. I'm with you I prefer the older style, but at least the image is from an actual french-resistance fighter from WWII

I think different here was a good idea. It certainly made me think looking at the box, Wow that looks different. I have way to many wargames with wargame covers... How else are we gonna get Eurogamers to convert??? :)

For me (YMMV) the worst cover in a wargame ever. Obviously no one not already a fan of the system is going to buy the expansion, but still... I don't like it.

Matter of taste. I like the new box art fine.

How better to motivate my cardboard Germans to exterminate partisans than by showing them an armed Frenchman with an insulting sneer on his pretty-boy face?

Erm... have you SEEN the dreck that's out there?

Incorrect perspective...

Barely passable entry-level illustrator work:

Hard to read, clashing:

CC:R is not the worst box ever.

In my opinion, it's just as good as most of the majority of wargame covers out there and better than many.

Whoa! some of them are pretty bad... the banzai one.... but stil I don't stand myself corrected. I don't like it all (as someone said a matter of tastes)

I think the cover art is really cool. Besides, the cover art for the Stalingrad battlepack is just a 'shopped picture too, and it looks great as well.

Guys, this is a posed picture. Something is happening, all right (see the two amused policemen?), but definitely not a firefight. Same as the photograph of the Italian partisans on the Playbook cover (two of them are actually aiming with a closed eye; from the look of the house at their back they should be in a northern town, perhaps Milano), the beautiful Command Confusion picture, and several other.

I wonder if anyone's considered whether this was done to highlight that resistance forces and fighting partisans were a different type of fight than regular armed forces. Maybe the different art on this one is highlighting a different aspect of the war.

I assume you're joking about converting Eurogamers. Most of them are never going to convert, because they don't like the kinds of games that wargamers like. I'm all for wargame covers that speak to wargamers. (This particular cover doesn't thrill me, but it doesn't really bug me either. I buy games for what's inside the box).

Maybe the cover is supposed to indicate that the resistance fighers were civilians for the most part and not soldiers.

I've been working on a resistance themed game this year and have used many available images from the web on prototype cards to help capture the theme. I didn't use this one in the end. I'm hoping to use original art in the final version.

I think I found this one while searching specifically for a photo of a resistance fighter with a sten gun.

Notice that in the original (which is probably posed) the GI is aiming his Colt 1911 directly at the partisan's thigh.

And he has his finger inside the trigger guard !

Seems we trained those dogfaces well in firearm safety.

The original photograph is much more interesting in my opinion. It all comes down to a question of taste I suppose but think of this, what if another game say... "Dominion" or... "Thunderstone" came out with an expansion that had a totally different box front, would this expansion be well received even though the box art is totally different than that of the previous releases?

Yeah, CC:R is really getting hammered in the reviews. I heard it's barely selling any copies at all. laugh

Also, what is "Dominion" and "Thunderstone?"

As far as converting eurogamers.. I was half joking and half not.

As far as this expansion, I had no interest in it til I read the rules on mustering and I thought, thats pretty cool! Then I started thinking how great this idea seemed and how relevant to this type of warfare. Most of the CC guys I know really like the heavy firefights, and this one didnt seem to have it when I first read about it... but the idea of the mustering sucked me in.

I don't think it is so bad.
The first association with the cover for me was the number one Finnish film star / singer of the era, Tauno Palo.
