Hey FTLers,

I have been getting the urge to go to Europe. I have never been. Just trying to get a feel for what I could do and where I could stay. If some FTLers have a couch and a game to play for a night that could factor into the planning!! I am graduating in May and think I would make my trip some time after that. Any suggestions of where to go and what to do and what to see are more than welcome- I am more into the rural, historical, cultural things and not so much into the tourist trap stuff. This is very tentative at this point and is my first step to making this happen!

Sweden is a really beautiful place in june, july and august so I can safely recommend a trip here. Stockholm is a very nice city with lots of cultural places. Just walking around in the old city is amazing. And if you happen to come to Uppsala I have a free couch and lots of game thats wants to be played...

Uppsala is located 100 kilometers north of Stockholm. Around 50 kilometers from Arlanda Airport. Btw; Uppsala has one of the omdest universites in Europe so there is lots of history & culture here as wellcool

I can't offer a room, but if you happen to pass through London, you must come to London on Board, one of the best games clubs in the world. (We have several GOTW's amongst our members)

I think London also has a few places of interest to visit.

Come to Bremen! Great gaming buddies with loads of boardgames, good food, an interesting city with many a great building, easy travel (trams & bus), and more...

Can't offer a room, but hotels aren't that expensive I think.

I would totally be down for London on Board. London is totally one of the must-visits for me.

I don't want happiness by halves, nor is half of sorrow what I want. Yet there's a pillow I would share, where gently pressed against a cheek like a helpless star, a falling star, a ring glimmers on the finger of a hand.

You can't say you've lived until you've stood here and watched the sun set (with the brisk atlantic breeze).

I can offer neither games nor lodging at the Cliffs of Moher, but you won't be disappointed should you go there.

Belgium is always an option if you like History, Food, Beer and Chocolate

I'll have to check with my family first, but if you're interested you're welcome here.

Brussels, Ghent, Antwerp and Bruges are only an hours drive away.

Paris, London, Berlin and Amsterdam are only a few hours away by train.

We have games and even a bed you could use (or a garden you could plant a tent in )

Europe is full of great destinations, but a big vote must go to London and for that matter to the rest of UK - depends how much time you have and how much you want to spend and travel. There are enough places to visit in London though to keep you occupied for quite a bit.

If you wanted to venture outside London then think of these as suggestions: Castles - lots of them and i'd recommend Warwick. The coastline - including the Jurassic coast (recently visited Lulworth Cove so its getting a plug), Heritage sites eg Stonehenge and Avebury, plenty of woodlands, parks, country houses and museums, wildlife reserves and many choice areas of countryside - The Chilterns, Malvern Hills, Brecon Beacons, Lake and Peak Districts, the list goes on.

I've only been to one part of Europe - Scotland. A wonderful place, very friendly people, great food, really good Scotch (of course) and great history. It was really special seeing Glasgow Cathedral which was built in the 12th century. There are tons of castles to visit, very good museums, great B&B's and other places to stay, and a good train system.

Probably the best time to go is August during festival time in Edinburgh. If you're there at that time be sure to get tickets to the Military Tattoo at Edinburgh Castle.

Ah and that's the open collection. I visited it a little while ago and got to see the closed collection. A friend of us works there part time and we went with her in the car to Essen last year and got together with her collegeas. Nice people there are three major ideas behind it: a full collection of all the boardgames in the world, scientific research and how to use games in classes. This is part of a college, it's not really the idea to just go there and play a game or loan out a game. But it was fun and I had a look at a couple of games that came back from Essen. Funny thing was that this was at the end of november and I still needed unwrap all those games I wanted to see

Have fun at your trip!
