It seemed pretty settled that the first basic pack of this game would include 2 TIE-Fighters and 1 X-Wing for 39.99$ (well, at least it seemed to me).
But since we already had a release date (February 2012), that now seems void with talk about the entire first half of 2012 as release date, I ask myself is the content and price of the starter pack really fixed or open to changes?
Any news?

I too am excited about this game and was also debating purchasing multiple starter packs... Then I imagined that FFG will probably offer single/multi-ship elements (1 freighter ala M.Falcon/Slave One, or 2-4 A/B/X/Y-wings or TIEs) in either small boxes or bubble packs with cards/movement dials.

This is my speculation of what is in the first box:

Instructions/dice - check
1 X-wing/2 TIEs, with pilot cards - check
Movement templates - check
Movement dials - check
Misc cardboard - check
Maybe a play mat, but not too likely since any black/space surface will do

All that being said, I'm probably going to get two sets anyway!

While that looks like a new box, those still look like the prototype minis from GenCon.

At that price point, and since I wouldn't have enough with one set, I think I'll pass.

27 bucks. If you insist on paying msrp for things, that's not anyone else's problem.

So 9 bucks for a detailed plastic toy. Action figures can't be much less than that. And you get a game in the box.

If the game sucks, you've got way more interesting/useful components than you do from most games that suck!

The game as priced right now is a total rip off. How is a ship battle with two tie fighters and 1 x-wing any fun? Where's the variety and replayability in that? Even if it had double the ships, I still don't think it would be worthwhile...

I understand why you all are complaining about price but it will not be lower than the $27 found on the OLGS's. This price model has done very well for Wings of War which is very directly comparable. The WoW starter with minis is actually much more expensive ($60 MSRP for 4 planes). No variety there as well.

This is a miniatures game with high quality pre-painted minis. Don't expect to spend less than $100-$200 when all is said and done. The WoW Observation Balloon sets cost $50 for a single balloon and a single plane. Guess what? They were profitable and demand was there.

the way i compare prices of stuff is how much something costs to how much use i get out of it. I imagine having at least 5 to 10 games with just the starter contents, so if thats £25 its only £2.50 to £5 per go, which is fine for me. If i took my girlfriend out for a mediocre meal and had 2 drinks each it would be the same price. I know what id rather spend my money on.

Since Wings of War didn't make a favorable impression with my group I'll skip this.
