Hi all

I am looking for reccomendations for games that involve building cities
that actually allow you to build buildings onto your board (manhatten for instance). Any suggestions please.

Check out Metropolis and Big City.
Urban Sprawl comes also to mind.

Btw. do you want to have an effect with the 3rd dimension or is it only the looks you search?

A game with a nice 3d scoring element is Torres.

Cathedral is a beautiful 3D city building game, but it is an abstract strategy game which has not much in common with city building as such

i'm not quite sure, if my recommendation qualifies as city building, but at least it covers the 3-dimensonial aspect: Casa Grande

i tried it once during a game fair and i'd say it's a nice game to play every now and then (rather then tbh ), but it's not my cup of tea and i wouldn't spend money it.

This is a full-blown, four-alarm holiday emergency here. We're gonna press on, and we're gonna have the hap, hap, happiest Christmas since Bing Crosby tap-danced with Danny fucking Kaye.

If you can get past the anathema of the Monopoly name, you might want to check out Monopoly City; if nothing else, it's a lot less of an investment if you find you end up not liking it.

Arkadia--Like this game a lot.

Cleopatra and the Society of Architects--have not played it, but looks interesting.

Not sure these are what you want, but they are 3D.

It actually comes with tiles, but you can pimp it:

using solid models and sticker sheets available on the game's images page.

Big City is a good one, but I think it's long out-of-print.

Cleopatra and the Society of Architects is a great. You actually use the box to create a height element in the game. Additionally, I doubt anyone else can tell me another game where you feed the most corrupt person to the crocodile god.

Big City is out of print currently, but Valley Games is working on a reprint (but that's been in the works for a long time I understand).

Urban Sprawl I'm personally in love with. Great game play, if you have the 2.5-3 hours to complete a game. Those 3D models are pretty impressive, but I'm fine with my standard tiles.

Sunrise City is coming out in 2012 and seems to have everything you're looking for. The 3D effect is limited to stacking thick tiles on top of each other, but the effect seems like it's going to look pretty cool.
