I said no to Prequel Starfighters, because, well... Do I really need to explain why?!?

I said no to Capital Ships because of scale and economy.
They do not need to be done in plastic, a portion of them can be represented by a game tile if scenarios call for it.

I would like to see a Death Star Trench fold out map, if possible.

I said yes to everything else. YES.

I didn´t want to include it in the poll, because it would be too specific, but I really would love to see a Death Star Attack Pack or something (maybe that could be the set with Vader´s TIE), with a map and Turbolaser Tower Minis, that would be so cool.

I said no to Expanded Universe Starfighters as well as Prequel Starfighters.

Even though I'm sort of against the idea...I wouldn't mind seeing some of the TI ships - BUT not until everything else in the regular Star Wars universe has been explored and exhausted.

One step further another "universe" to crossover with (Babylon 5, Star Trek, Firefly, Battlestar Galactica, and/or Ships from the Games Workshop Universe) Yes the licensing would be insane, But I think the gameplay would be fun if done right.

The expanded universe is ok but not really neccisary as it never brought in very many cool fighters like in the original movies. same with the prequels its not to do with the time frame but the ships lack the coolness of the ones from the imperial trilogy.

I also agree capital ships will be too big, and i plan on making my own asteroids. asteroid movement rules using scatter dice would be easy to implement.

I would like to see characters from the expanded universe, mainly rogue squadron (i like a bald plourr she is pretty hot) and baron fel from his imperial days.

An experience system would be good as well, and add the level of realism you get where the veterans dont want to befriend the rookies cos the rookies dont usually last very long.

I think tie interceptors and Y wings should be first, then A wings and tie bombers. That will allow for the most possible scenarios in the shortest release timeframe.

I was thinking the same thing.
That would be great!

The X-Wing novels had lots of cool modifiers and "Uglies",
I would like to see some of those-- X-Wing / Tie Fighter Hybrids are cool!!!
It would be nice to see some official versions, but there will certainly be homemade versions of them!

Great Idea!
I would like to see a Lt. Ketch pilot card.

Really looking forward to this game!

I dunno. I think Capital ships would be good. If we are worried about scale, then the capital ship could actually be a card or paper map.

IMHO, without capital ships many of the "fighters" are pointless. Y-wing, B-wing and TIE-bomber are all designed to tacle capital ships and plain suck in a dog fight.

So without capitals I only see room for A-wings and TIE-interceptors as expansion posibilities.

I would love to see capital ships in some way/shape or form as I'd love to see B-wings. My favorite fighter/bomber.

There aren't actually that many ships in just the movies, either.

But yeah. I want everything (well, not prequel stuff, who the hell wants that.)

I disagree. Bombers can hit ground targets (as all the film fighters work in a planets atmosphere as well there are a lot of scenario possibilities with that.

The B wing is not just a bomber, it is an advanced fighter capable of taking on fighters and hitting larger targets.

The Y wing has lasers to the front, and a rear mounted ion cannon that is perfect for taking out shields or other electrical systems of fighters on your tail.

Also bear in mind that an X wing is also classed as a heavy fighter and was often employed to take out capital ships and death stars.

As a rule we shouldn't miss out tie defenders, tie advanced, Z 95 headhunters and a regular star wars shuttle that might be bad in a fight but good for escort scenarios, say getting a political figurehead off a planets surface and through a screen of blockading fighters. The only uglies in the rogue squadron omnibus (graphic novels) had the body of a tie fighter and the side pods from a Y wing. They didn't look too bad but as a rule they were as weak as a tie fighter and as slow as a Y wing.

A cardboard printout of a capital ship (or part of) set at a table edge would also make a good bombing target. Im not sure on the scales of the ships, but going off wings of war prices I dont think a fully realised capital ship will be in many peoples price range.

Yeah, capital ships and ground targets are pretty much the same thing as far as this level of game is concerned.

The X wing Novels had different variety of Uglies. As did I, Jedi.

Things like the Y-wings Ion cannon seem like a perfect thing for this system to try and model!

I suppose both ground targets and capital ships could be avalible in the form of scenario goals of some form and wouldn't require actual models to be present.
I allso agrea about the X-wing being a heavy fighter with boming capabilities.

I'm not to sure about the Y-wing rear mounted ion cannon though. My impresion is that it is mounted just abouve the canopy. But as with most fictional things I suppose we could very well be both right about that as consistency between films, books, games, toys and what not might not allways be highest priority

Granted I've not read much StarWars fiction so most of my feel for the ships and theire roles comes from playing the X-wing and TIE-fighter games for PC. God I miss thouse! But that is an other topic

I havent read any of the older novels for a while, I dont think ive read any x wing ones. The thrawn trilogy is good but I dont think it introduces any new fighters.

How would you say Ion cannons would work best? I would imagine either not allowing a target to fire or just a weapon that takes out shields.

I also cant remember much of those games. Loved tie fighter, but thought x wing was a bit average. In the rogue squadron omnibus the gunner in the Y wing faces the rear. I imagine the x wing game only used a pilot in the Y wing. A quick read on star wars wiki says an astromech droid can be used instead of a co-pilot.

Im sure there are inconsistencies throughout everything but I dont think the rear mounted ion cannon offers more tactical opportunities.

Skipray Blastboats are heavy fighters. I don't actually know where the Z-95 is from, but that's the earliest place I remember it being named. He describes a lot of Freighter level ships that can be pimped out like the Falcon as well. And mole miners!

And yeah, aside from those, if you haven't read any of the X-Wing books (and aside from the bounty hunter wars (and even then, I wouldn't begrudge someone for being annoyed by those)) you're reading the wroooong books!

Ion cannons should . . . maybe have some way to hit engines, or shields, or weapons? Maybe sort of random, and not very reliable, Or just short range, since they're so terribly inaccurate.

I wonder where the rotating Ion cannon thing started. I'm gonna blame Legos . . .

I think the inspiration might be from the snowspeeder things on hoth, as they have a rear facing co-pilot as well. Of course this all has roots in WW1 dogfighting where rear facing machine gunners were a good idea.

The Z-95 was in the PC games, and was basically a lighter version of an X wing. I remember them pretty much being tie fodder, but that could just be the quality of the pilots.

Random effect of an ion cannon would be a lot of fun. Then again if I had it my way Id have torpedoes as guess range weapons (detonate at a certain time). That is the only thing I like about warhammer fantasy battles.

I generally read a star wars book in between a fantasy book. I have just read the darth bane trilogy, which is very well written for franchise fiction, but has nothing to do with star fighter at all really. It does have a few custom shuttles and personal craft in the style of slave I and the millenium falcon, but no real visual descriptions. Currently im going through the legacy of the force, but have another 6 to go. The x wing books are on my list but might get there for a while.

In the X-wing series of games the Y-wing indeed had only one pilot (and an astromech droid). The pilot could switch between laser and ion cannons but both types where facing forward and you had to aim by flying so to speak. Ion cannons would drain shields of the target and once they where down you could dissable it, leaving it defenseless with no engines, weapons or shields. It was mostly used to disable ships so boarding ships could dock with it IIRC.

The Skipray Blast Boat is an original creation from West End Games for their Star Wars RPG. It´s first appearance was in the First Edition of the Imperial Sourcebook which had it´s first printing in October 1989 (looked it up in my copy, I still have all my Star Wars D6 stuff ).

The Z-95 first appeared in the story Han Solo at Stars End by Brain Daley from around 1980. West End Games included it as an outdated forerunner to the X-Wing in it´s Star Wars Sourcebook from 1988.

When Timothy Zahn got the contract to write a new Star Wars book/series around the beginning of the 90´s Lucasfilm arranged that he would be suppplied with tons of background material and that being at the time, besides what Lucasfilm had in it´s own archives, mainly all the West End Games stuff.

This is how many of the RPG stuff ended up in Zahn´s Trilogy and while for many people it seemed like his original creation, that isn´t the case.

thanks for the knowledge.

Ive heard good things about the original star wars rpg its a shame it was before my time, as i especially hate the d20 system.

I had a thought earlier about making mini AT ATs as bombing run targets.

It was before my time as well. Maybe FFG will do new and innovative with the Star Wars license on the RPG front. I bet we are years away from that though. They might talk about it at GenCon 2012, but I'm not holding my breath.

OTOH, all of the FFG marketing seems to be focusing on the OT. Was the license limited to those movies, or just pandering to the target audience?

my thoughts align with your own with regard to the licensing.
