Simple! Go out in the backyard and dig a 'trench' however large and realistic that you desired, THEN just "reside" within for years to come! whistle

First Day of the Somme will really give you a depressing feeling of hopelessness for the whole bloody affair.

Happy Holidays!

Ace of Aces: Balloon Buster I seem to remember solo rules for it.

Maybe I'm confusing it with a board air game though.

The Lost Battalion: The Meuse-Argonne Offensive, 1918

Awesome game, large map. Must have been the most hellish battlefield environment ever.

Wings Over France

A solitaire game of air warfare in April, 1917 in France. Good game, although I prefer the computer version.

Must it be a solo-game or a game which is solo-able?

solo-able games on WW1 are quite common.

The Clash of Giants games are quite good
Clash of Giants has 2 scenario's, 1 on the Marne and 1 on Tannenberg.
Clash of Giants II has 1 scenario of the Race to the sea and one in Galacia.

Both are chit-draw games with no hidden information. Play rather quick (about 3 hours per scenario) and are available second hand for decent prices.

Something with a bit more meat is Der Weltkrieg Series, which are available on almost every battle-front there was in WW1.

Have fun.

Cheers, Haring

any thread that brings in 'the boys' is worth a thumb from me.

see also 'Pack Up Your Troubles' for some more trench-oriented tom-foolery.

I play Trenches of Valor solo. Even if it's designed for 2 players, it plays solo very well, as one side (the defenders) have very limited decisions to make. A tactical game on trench raids, recommended!

Play Vimy Ridge by yourself. No, it's not a solo game, per se, but why anyone would want to play the Germans in that one, I couldn't imagine. There's so much death on the first turn, I could never play it again.

Basically, go check out http://minden_games.homestead.com/index.html. They (he) have published a number of solo WWI games as listed. First Day of the Somme was pretty well received.

The old SPI Soldiers includes a solitaire scenario, Mlawa, which pits an active German player against Russian troops entrenched in a town.
