If so, call them and have them do a price adjustment, which they'll honor since they know you can simply buy it at the lower price and return the other for a full refund.

I've emailed them and explained the issue in hopes of a refund. I hope that works.

I'd call rather than email. These price drops are sometimes for weeks, but just as often for a few hours. If the price has gone back up by the time it's being dealt with by customer service you won't get an adjustment.

As long as you are within the complimentary return period (which can be checked in your order history) you can at the very least get a promotional credit… otherwise you can simply return the item for a full refund and buy at the new lower price. They know this and would rather not have to go through the extra processing.

If you ever get turned down just ask for a supervisor or try again with another CSR.

But if I buy the item again, Amazon ships it for free (Prime Membership), then I return the more expensive item for a refund and cancel my prime membership, the same results are achieved, except Amazon loses more money as well as loses a Prime customer and gains an unsatisfied customer who will spread the word of how Amazon didn't do the right thing.2:58:01 PM

It would be nice if they would refund the difference, but I completely understand why they wouldn't. In all honesty, if you were to order one copy for $20 and one for $11, then return the $11 one for $20, that's YOU being dishonest and taking advantage of their return policy. I don't see see how just because you can take advantage of their system, it makes you entitled to an honest refund.

but like I said, I wish their policy offered a refund for the price difference too, but that's why I try to read as much about store policy before doing business with a company.

How can that make me dishonest? I never said I was going to return the $11 one (you said I was going to do that), I would return the $20 one.

EDIT: And one very short and polite phone call later, mentioning only that I bought the item on Sat. for $20 and today it is $12, and Maria has plocessed an $8.00 refund (not credit on my account) onto my card.

Update,

I just sent them a simple email if they had a price guarantee as the price was changed with in 72hours.

Here is what they wrote back:

Sorry to hear that they denied you the credit Jim.

I'd definitely cut and paste the entire thing into an email to start, and as I've said before, try calling.

Clearly the chat support team is outsourced to India, whereas the call center I've reached by phone was definitely not.

Geographic location shouldn't have any bearing on policy, I have definitely had superior results with the telephone customer service.

Still no guarantees of course, and the worst case scenario you can just return and repurchase in the future knowing that their inconsistent policy on this is not worth the hassle.

If they want to pay for the privilege of my getting the best deal possible instead of honoring price drops like most large B&M retailers, that's their choice.

I think this tougher position they seem to be taking now is down to their using Dynamic Pricing much more aggressively of late, and with prices fluctuating hour to hour, I can see how crediting price changes could be a customer support nightmare given that tens of thousands of purchases each month would qualify.

Jon, Roy, did each of you ask for an adjustment on items that hadn't yet shipped?

Be good to know if this is indeed the defining factor in whether credits are approved or not now.

Yes my item had shipped. The e-mail from them stated that this was not their policy but they would make an "exception" for me. We do spend a ton of money at Amazon... not sure if this affects their decision but I can't think it hurts.
