Hi,

I just got SPQR (deluxe) and I'm in the process of punching and sorting out the counters. I also bought the SGBoH rulebook.

I was wondering which ruleset to start with. The appeal of the simple ruleset is the shorter playing time, meaning that I'll get to play more scenarios.

Would learning the full rules be easier by starting with the simple ones, or are they very different? How difficult would it be to switch from one to the other? If I start with the full rules or the simple rules, will I have to "unlearn" a lot?

Thanks for your help! Looking forward to playing my first ancients wargame.

In fact you should be aware that these are really two different systems, indeed using the same material. You'd have to forget rules of one to play the other.
Not one better than the other, just different. I do play all my GBoH games with the "simple rules", allowing more plays as it's simplier and faster (for some players less accurate... that's not my case).

Hi Sam,

Immo, if you start with full rules you will never return to simple ones (once read); if you start with simple rules you will pass to full ones without problems ... with regret not having read them before!

I've decided to start with SGBOH purely for the reason, the game will see more table-time.
