All players then reveal these shares simultaneously and ensure that they are easily seen by the other players. These shares form the share holdings that the players have at the start of the game. Now, create the draw pile with the remaining share cards.

Exactly. The rules have you play them face down at first initially, so your choice doesn't effect what other players pick for their starting stock. You also don't have people waiting to decide until they see what others have played, so it could speed up the setup part of the game
