I'm looking for a dice odds calculator for the iphone. I'm trying to find one that is as good and comprehensive as SmallRoller. I think I may have found one, but I don't know if it is any good (it has a single old review). The need for something like this came up yesterday while playing The Ares Project. I was trying to quickly calculate whether scoring 2 hits with 3d6, rolling 1's, was better than 2 hits rolling 1-2's, with 3d6's....

Does anyone have one they recommend? Sure I could the math in my head, but math is hard...

You can use anydice.com. Bit of a learning curve to learn some of the more interesting things there, but chances are it can calculate anything you might want to throw at it.

Although, and I say this obviously knowing nothing of what your social circles are like, I'd consider it extremely poor form to bust out a phone in the middle of a game and calculate odds. Especially in the middle of combat, when presumable the game has to stop and wait on you to finish.

Chance of rolling (at least) two 1 on three dice is 18/216th or 1/12th.

Chance of rolling (at least) two 1 or 2 on three dice is 72/216th or 1/3rd.

The chances of rolling the numbers you need for that specific game situation on any dice: like nil cry

I'd say that this is not correct.

The odds to roll at least two ones with 3 dice is
1x((1/6)^3)x((5/6)^0)+3x((1/6)^2)x((5/6)^1) = 2/27

The odds to roll at least two times one or two with 3 dice is
1x((1/3)^3)x((2/3)^0)+3x((1/3)^2)x((2/3)^1) = 7/27

Sorry to correct you, but the odds seemed strange to me

I'd say that this is not correct.

Where did I make a mistake? Two 1 with 3 dice can be achieved with:

1 1 X
1 X 1
X 1 1

Thats 6 combinations each for a total of 18 / 216 combinations.

Rolling two (1 or 2) with 3 dice adds the following possible patterns:

1 2 X ... with the X at all three locations
2 1 X ... with the X at all three locations
2 2 X ... with the X at all three locations

So that's 4 times as many combinations. 72 / 216 = 1 / 3

Not sure which app you found, but Dice Odds doesn't work in iOS5. It's fabulous if you've got iOS4. If it's some other app, could you share the name? Thanks!

It was actually Dice Odds. But the online odds calculator above is so much better because it allows me to calculate things like te example i gave (i didn't think Dice Odds could dot it).
