Gunship: First Strike! A hit on Kickstarter and soon available as a PreOrder!

Hi, guys

Anyone here ever run a Kickstarter project?

I submitted mine to them several days ago and I have heard nothing.

I see no reason why they would NOT let me run this as it is just a board game like all the rest but I figured I would hear from them by now.

As you can see, I am a nerous wreck these days - any info greatly appreciated.

Remember the good old days when you could use this thing called a PHONE and get a person to talk to who would answer your questions?

Thanks!

Steve

I'd blame the holidays as my initial thought.

Patience, it is the holiday. The first time takes the longest. After that, you don't need pre-approval anymore.

Hopefully the approval will be the most stressful part and the rest goes smoothly!

Steve, worry not. Your game is golden. It will get approved. Just have patience, the holidays slow everything down.

Steve,
Mine was approved right away but I would agree that the holidays probably have a lot to do with it, especially given that Kickstarter is still a smaller startup.

It might actually work in your favor to start later anyway. I'm in the middle of a project right now and I can't tell you how many people I've lost because they are feeling the Christmas Crunch now that credit card bills are coming in. And since you get your biggest boost at the beginning and the end, I think the last thing you want to do is launch the project on a holiday week where everyone has so many other things to worry about than looking at Kickstarter.

And if you're thinking, "they'll be sitting around with nothing to do and might see the project", I thought that too. I got one pledge on Thanksgiving

Hope this helps, and good luck on your project once you kick it off. It's a lot of work but also a lot of fun.

Its actually launching in mid-Feb. I just wanted to get it approved so I can get that out of the way and I am hoping I can work on the site for it some before the project actually begins.

Thanks guys!

Yeah, seriously... there's a lot of games on KS, things that IMO look completely, utterly half-baked. Not only are they approved, but some of them even get fully-funded (I'm thinking some sort of UFO conspiracy there).

Anyhow... long way to say it, but as others have pointed out, your game is waaaay too pro to NOT get approved. Wait until the 3rd or so of the new year, and if you don't hear anything, then consider a follow-up.

The approval process has nothing to do with the QUALITY of your work, merely the intent and purpose.

The most common projects on KS are to fund independent films. You can't judge the "quality" of a film that doesn't yet exist, after all.

Mostly it's to avoid trolls and lamers, who are all like "fund my life, so I can DO ART and stuff instead of working."

The whole point of KS is that whatever you're pitching isn't done yet.

Right... I was extending my to some of these pitches... unless what you pitch to KS isn't the same as what ends up on your public proposal page.

I'm [pretty sure apporval is just to stop your putting acres of pornographic images or spreading anti-governmental ideas and if your "project" complies with all standard regulations.

I wouldn't worry about it Steve man - it is Christmas

Got my email yesterday! I am in.

Now I have just 50 days to build a tremendous KS page and find a way to talk all of you wonderful people into grabbing a copy!

I'm just glad I have time to build it - I was afraid it was like eBay where you have to build and launch at the same time!

Cool, glad to hear it worked out okay. I'd say take your time and make sure you build up a fan base before you launch. I made the mistake of thinking that Kickstarter would get exposure for the game not realizing that the game already needed its own marketing campaign BEFORE I started Kickstarter.

Feel free to check out my page at genegrafter.com to see what I had to change to make it acceptable for the community. There are probably way too many updates but I wanted to make sure everyone knew what I was up to and not feel like I had abandoned the project at all.

And don't forget to post it here when it launches: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/59640/boardgame-kickst...
