I know there are a lot of gaming conventions. I've heard a lot about them. But where do people learn about these conventions? Is there a convenient location where one could find a schedule of all upcoming gaming conventions?

There use to be a couple fan run ones, but they've stopped being updated for a while and I haven't gone looking.

There is a Yahoo group I belong to for convention listings, but it's somewhat died out too.

Really one of the best ones for US gaming conventions is on SJGs website. http://www.sjgames.com/con/ but I would think it's all inclusive.

They're missing orgins from the list

http://www.originsgamefair.com/

There are also all the comic cons, toy and game conventions, etc

http://www.comic-con.org/cci/

http://www.chitag.com/

http://www.boardgamers.org/

Are you just interested in game related cons? And as as fan or someone working in the industry because their are different trade shows and conventions for each group.

Totally only interested in gaming related conventions- namely ones where there will be lots of people to play games with.

Origins and Gencon are the top 2 then, Origins is Columbus and will be in the spring this year and Gencon is in Indy and later in the summer.

If you haven't been to either both are worth checking out, GECON is the large of the two and if you're looking to shop that's the one to go to, both have enough games going to keep anyone busy for a few days

Sounds like WBC is your best bet. People actually go there only to PLAY games. Gencon/Origins/Dragon*Con have sidelight gaming available, but tons of other frufru that gets in the way of gaming. And if you are interested particularly in BOARDgaming, then there's even more dilution at those affairs.

Some other "frufru" is fine, so long as there's people to game with alongside it. But yeah my interest is in board games, not comics or anime or star wars or video games or...whatever else. I mean, I have a passing interest in some of those things, but not a convention-level interest.

Brian, there are also a ton of small regional cons. You might try posting in the geographic forums (for where you live, or where you're willing to travel to for a small con). If you mainly want to play boardgames, that's the total focus of some of these small cons.

You might be interested in Unity Games (unitygames.org) in Woburn, MA. Feb 4--one day. But they have room for over 500 gamers.

Each convention listed on SJG has to actually submit themselves for inclusion. SJG does not seek out and compile the list themselves.
If Origins isn't on there, it's because nobody working for them has bothered to email in the details yet.
