Hi,

We received just before Christmas our copy of the game. All read and ready to play, however...

The majority of the sea biomes feature M or MM DNAs. Furthermore, they also usually show pictures of fishes or other marine animals.

Does it mean that only predators can live on this habitat? I had the impression that predators could only prey upon animals, meaning the nice little animeeples pieces but excluding tiles.

Same questions about the immigrant tiles. If a sea immigrant is a predator, will it go on the lower climate biome, in the predator triangle or will it go on the first eligible habitat where there is already an herbivore.

Thank you,

Have all a great new year!

No, they're just art. The immigrant predator will go into the predator triangle of the lowest climate biome with a suitable herbivore animal - either a player or an immigrant. As for the fact that the marine biomes show fish and sea animals, well, they're the sort of primary food resource that the biome offers, so basically the "herbivores" that take up residence there will in reality be feeding on fish (which doesn't really make them herbivores, but..).

All biomes, regardless of the depicted food type, provide food for what the game terms Herbivores. That includes fish, insects, etc. It's more a matter of game definition.

Likewise Immigrant Predators will only move to a Biome with a Herbivore on it - a player Animeeple, or a Herbivore Immigrant.

A vegetarian friend once argued that lobster and prawns were vegetables

It was just after he became a vegetarian and he just couldn't let go but it is useful for this situation

it came up with our first game as well but we decided to just ignore the name and drawing for game purposes and just use it in our rather colorful description of tool using whalepods that have a prehensile tongue to use for hunting

I just love this game

a friend found it way to random so we won't be playing it with him in the near fututre but hey, he has games that I wouldn't touch with a eleven foot pole

happy gaming anyways

The Vatican once declared that beaver were fish, and could therefore be eaten on Fridays...

Not often you'll hear the Vatican being used to support a rule in Megafauna... cool

Thanks for your astute observation. Every non-immigrant tile on the map is a biome, an assemblage of plants, arthropods, fish, and zooplankton. Animals sitting on a biome or rooter triangle are herbivores (even if some are technically piscivores or insectivores), and animals in the predator triangle are carnivores. A predatory immigrant (land or sea) will always go in the predator triangle, and an herbivorous one goes on the biome.
