John Bohrer posted this on the Winsome Games Yahoo Group:

Due to a consulting German editor's dislike of the English word 'rural', this word was unfortunately removed from the Queen printing of German Railways (Preußische Ostbahn). This has caused some confusion.

In the "Build Track" section of the Queen rules (top of page 6) is the most glaring contradiction, where one bullet states:

"Urban (city) hexes may have multiple locomotives in the hexagon"

and the next states

"Only one railroad may build track in plains, mountains, hills and Berlin Approach zone hexagons."

This is contradictory, as urban (city) hexes are located in plains, mountains and hills.

The second bullet should state "Only one railroad may build track in rural (non-city) hexes"

This also applies to the Großherzoglich Badischen Staatseisenbahnen special ability. It should state:

"The Badische may place one rural track (of its 3 allowed track) per Expansion for free."

Both Queen and Winsome are sorry for any confusion this error has caused.

Another error was the omission of the terrain type of Berlin and the Berlin Approaches. They are Plains hexes.

We all hope that you enjoy Harry's game!
John Bohrer

Queen would sell the game for half the current price in this case. These are big errors OR post a corrected/revised rulebook. If one knows Winsome rules is ok, but if one is a novice, the problems could be enormous.

So basically only one railroad per hex UNLESS it is a city hex, right?

Thx

Just bought and learned the game today and John Bohrer's update would have helped avoid a bit of confusion though we figured it out.

One are we were never certain about was what Berlin actually cost to build in since it is not a plain, mountain, hill, or approach.

We just assumed it was a plain

Any ideas?

Thx

Plains as explained in the last line of the rules errata (see above):

What a beautiful world we live in. "I'd be happy to publish your book, Mr. Twain, but I'm afraid I just don't like the word 'river', so I've removed it."

A Question:

The Rules in English said:

"The Großherzoglich Badischen Staatseisenbahnen was patronized and lavishly sponsored by its Duchy. When building track, placing the first locomotive (of its allowance of 3) in a plains, hills, mountains, or Berlin Approach zone hexagon is free. Start City: Mannheim, hills"

But in the "RULES ERRATA" said:

"This also applies to the Großherzoglich Badischen Staatseisenbahnen special ability. It should state:
"The Badische may place one rural track (of its 3 allowed track) per Expansion for free."

I wonder if the free track should be the first to be placing or may be any one of the other track?

Any one of the three track placed, as long as it's rural.

The German rules from Queen's edition track the original Winsome rules more closely than the English:

Quote:
Pro Streckenausbau ist eine Nicht-Stadt-Strecke (von insgesamt 3 möglichen) kostenlos. Die Berliner Randzone zählt als Nicht-Stadt-Strecke.

How unfortunate that the original English intent was lost in (re)translation.
