we've probably played over 50 games, in our group, and this is the first time we've encountered this.

here's how it went down:

A builds to 16 (6 players, so end game was triggered at 14).
B builds to 16.
(players C, D, E & F either can't power or can't afford to build to 16).
A and B both have resources and plants to power 16.
A and B both have $9 left at the beginning of bureaucracy/end game.
A and B both have 16 total cities.

who wins, in that case?? did we break the game?? haha.

Excellent! I have seen a game decided by $1, but never a tie.

Who owns the highest numbered power plant is the only thing that cannot end in a tie as all the numbers are unique. However as you haven't talked about this before hand and it is not official tie-breaker you both won, or no one did. As others have said play again to break the tie.

From this point on include the the number of the plant as the 3rd tie-breaker, just make sure you tell your friends about it.

P.S. - Must have been a hell of a game, at least for the A and B.

In a tournament where there absolutely must be a result, this is the common rule. but the actual rule is "rejoice in your shared victory".

I think this is the only option that makes sense.

You could check who has the most empty beer bottles by them...

I'ld say that's a Friendly tie or,

if competitive, who's got the highest Plant.

Makes me want to play!

i actually proposed the highest plant as a tie-breaker, so it's nice to see i'm not alone there. however, we decided to just call it a tie.

cheers!

The number of total cities is actually irrelevant; it is not an official tie breaker.

Number of cities is relevant and it is an official tie breaker, but it's the second tie breaker (after money).

From the rules:
If there is a tie, the player with the most remaining money wins. If there is still a tie, the player with the most cities in his network is the winner.

Not in the original rules.

But yeas, it looks like it's in the English rules, so if you're playing that version, my remark was irrelevant.
