Fellow grogs, what do you have planned as you're last wargame of 2011?

I've just started a game of Soviet Dawn and I'm hoping to try some other games from Victory Point Games States of Siege Series later.

So whats happening in your neck of the woods

Here's the related geeklist http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/97853/new-years-eve-ga...

Edit: before I forget - Happy New Year for tomorrow (or today for some of you) laugh

Edit: and I achieved a strategic military defeat prior to the Dawn cards getting into the game blush

Since I have to work tomorrow, I was thinking of playing a solo game of Hornet Leader: Carrier Air Operations tonight. I just got it for Christmas, so I am looking forward to giving it a go.

This Memorial Day weekend, do not thank a veteran. Say a prayer of thanks for those in our military who gave their last full measure of devotion, and all their tomorrows, so that we could enjoy today and all OUR tomorrows.

Jim

Take no notice of that naughty billyboy laugh

I treated myself to a copy just before Christmas and I've been reading the rule & play books to get me up to speed for a solo game in the New Year.

Otherwise, a loud game of Pit, not a wargame, but like a friend of mine said: "There's some war in it".

Well THAT didn't take long!

Funny how 3 things on The Geek always seem to generate the most attention:
1) Are Twilight Struggle and Labyrinth: The War on Terror, 2001 – ? really Wargames?
2) To clip or not to clip?
3) Trays or bags?

So now that we have that out of our system, back to the OP!

You have to, at least from a distance, look as if you know what you're doing, and I can manage that.

Tomorrow I shall have the house free to break out and solo La Bataille des Quatre Bras. Looking for a plucky Anglo-Dutch defence against the dastardly French. at least for the two turns I might actually get completed...

Hero of Weehawken, though it is more a "levying-of-war-game" rather than a wargame.

I'm determined to have a play even if it is solo. Been looking at them for years put never pulled the lanyard until now. I think it's going to be like GBoH - great game but very few willing to learn and play it!

My experience with BAR has me shying away from these now.
GBoH has a good deal less mechanical action - cleaner system.

I sort of doubt I'm going to get a game of Sekigahara: The Unification of Japan in tonight yet, but I'm still hopeful for New Year's Day or the next.

Last night, a friend and I played Washington's War for the first time (for me, anyway) since the time I played it right after its release. We were both really rusty with the rules, even though I'd just reread them and he'd reskimmed them, and we made some memorably disastrous moves. (My personal worst was bringing in the French army to a port where they were immediately crushed in the next battle.) We ended up playing to a tie in 1782, which he as the British won. I enjoyed it more than I did the first time I played, although I'm still not sure I get it.

Enrico

Sadly I'm in agreement with you regarding BAR. I have Lobositz: First Battle of the Seven Years War which I really wanted to get to the table. However given the constraints on my wargaming time I've reluctantly put this up for sale/trade.
Not a reflection on the game, it's just not for me.

You're lucky you only bought one.

After SEEING Lobositz, and finding a good deal on four others,
I bought the pile. Kinda taught me to actually play a game
from a series before buying into it.

Don't get me wrong, I had some fun playing it - I just don't
think I can justify having put it in with my 'must have' series'.
