It has been a pretty crazy year in work and family lives for the main contributors of BoP and we've made less progress than desired. (One of us became a father this fall and another is finishing up his private pilot license, so it is not just work!)

Fighter Sweep is nearly complete on the ADC front. I've incorporated all the inputs from the editorial team on all but three ADCs. Scenarios have a lot of content, but I need to spend a week pulling it together in one spot, and the the editorial pass will need to grind over it. I'd like to have this shipping at the end of February.

BoP 2.0 has gone through some analysis at the BoP-Gun conference. We are trying to streamline the game for smoother play and to eliminate some gamey effects. Rolling will be greatly simplified and simultaneously made more realistic (we see some behaviors in play that don't fit real-world tactics). We will probably see simplifications to sensors and visual searching, to speed these in FtF play. I'm also doing a re-layout of the move-aids and control card in hopes of making things flow more naturally and making things a bit less of an eye-chart.

BoP 2.0 will also add a few more ADCs to match the new box-mini cutting die. We are also adding a new booklet to give more background to those less familiar with jet dogfighting, both to give a richer feel and to help new players make tactical choices. I don't have an ETA on BoP 2.0 at the moment.

Ultramoderns has started the description writing effort and actually has about 2/3rds of the art complete. I'd really like to get this done about the same time as BoP 2.0 so we can fold any super-maneuver rules into the game box.

Early Jets is a small group of folios that another contributor is starting work on. One would be our "Dawn of the Jet Age" concept, covering jets of WW2 and other straight-wing craft. Another would cover Korea and the Suez Crisis. Since much of the work on a folio is description writing, stores table and user table research, this sort of project can move independent from the main development effort.

The BoP-Gun conference was a lot if fun and we are planning to do it again in 2012. We are working to identify a time and place for this event. (We intend this to roam around, rather than staying in a fixed location.) if you have a candidate location, send me a note offline!

Wow. Thanks for posting this. I'll happily order every add-on and folio you release for BoP. I was hoping for something from you exactly like your dawn of the Jet Age folio. That sounds wonderful.

Generally, how different will BoP 2.0 be from the current release of BoP? Is it largely rules changes, or are there component changes? Will it be possible to upgrade current BoP to BoP 2.0, or will a complete rebuy be requited?

BoP 2.0 will play very similarly, but will have small changes throughout the game that may require replacement of most of the paper and laminated components.

BUT DON'T PANIC!

Ad Astra Games (our publisher) has committed to making an upgrade available to existing BoP customers at essentially the cost to print+ship. The Airbattle Games team (the designers) will take zero profit on the upgrade kits. Since the heavy costs of BoP are in the plastic pieces and Box-Miniatures, the cost of paper is relatively inexpensive. (We're also planning to work with an international shipping specialist to ensure our labeling for customs incurs the lowest possible duty... I think it should work like a repair and not add additional cost, but I can't be sure at this point.)

Check this post out for some earlier thoughts on the cost: http://talk.consimworld.com/WebX?14@215.NVwncEC23bA.129@.1dd...

Thank you for the end of year status report. As it is almost a month later, is there any new info regarding a release date yet? Or even a general sense e.g. as to which quarter at the earliest?

Thanks again!

Any update on 2.0? I'm looking to get into this game, but I am wondering if I should wait for the updated version...
