All reality is a game. Physics at its most fundamental, the very fabric of our universe, results directly from the interaction of certain fairly simple rules, and chance; the same description may be applied to the best, most elegant and both intellec

and aesthetically satisfying games. By being unknowable, by resulting from events which, at the sub-atomic level, cannot be fully predicted, the future remains malleable, and retains the possibility of change, the hope of coming to prevail; victory.

The GeekList:
Jan 2012 Turku-Helsinki Math Trade

The deadlines:
Deadline to add games: Sunday, January 15th, 23:00
Deadline to submit want lists: Sunday, January 22nd, 23:00

STATUS: Done.

Do not give or send any games yet!
All participants have now 24 hours to report any problems to me. I will post instructions for inter-city delivery soon, when tomorrow at 23:00 I give the all clear.

The results stand, and are now official.
Intra-city trades may happen at your leisure. Inter-city delivery methods will be announced shortly, with a new post.

All in all, I am very happy with the result - 56 of 206 items (27.2%) - and it seems that there is going to be some nice trades happening.

It looks like Justus is the lucky new owner of a bottle of paint thinner, and all is well in the world.

"Who wanted mine", official wants and results summaries are now live on OLWLG. These are useful for those that want to go and do individual side trades after the end of the MT.

These links may or may not work for you:
http://bgg.activityclub.org/olwlg/wantedby.cgi?listid=97910
http://bgg.activityclub.org/olwlg/mostwanted.cgi?listid=9791...

And again, all the trades:

Did I do this right? I'd just like to check that I understood this correctly before adding more offers: As a first-timer, I add games to the list only, not through OLWLG. And my offers will show up in OLWLG as well after you've resynced the OLWLG entry, correct?

Took a while to understand that as a first-timer I should not try to add offers of multiple items through OLWLG.

You did it just right. Technically you could also do it via the OLWLG even as a beginner, but it is much less challenging to just add GL item.

You can go ahead and add more items at will. The most important thing at this point is not delete any items. You may edit their descriptions as you like, if you change your mind about something.

I have synchronised the list with OLWLG, so that you can see how it looks there. I can generally do that once per day.

Can I submit a litre bottle of vodka as a trade item?

BTW, the thread link in the GL header links to the previous math trade.

Haha, sure, actually, why not? Make sure you use the "alt name" tags.

Thanks for the link, I forgot that there were two places where I link to the discussion.

Hi all, you might see some Greek-flagged avatars popping up in the MT GL. This is happening because Pericles1958's international modelling career has really taken off, and he goes back and forth between Helsinki and Athens, so in addition to his stuff in Greece, he might also bring some stuff from people in the GrEEK Guild that might want to give some games.

It doesn't really affect anyone, all the exchanges will be made in Turku & Helsinki. Do throw some and thumbsup his way though, if he takes your games for an etelämatka.

Given that this is the first math trade for some and the first BGG/OLWLG math trade for others, and with the occasion of 2 copies of Genoa being listed, I wanted to offer some guidance on duplicate protection. This is also mentioned in the GeekList.

Duplicate protection is there so that if two copies of a game are listed, e.g. Genoa and you would be happy with either one, you could enter them both in your want lists but only receive one of them, not both.

This is one of the most useful ways OLWLG can help us run the trade, and it works by creating "dummy items" that exclude each other from the trade algorithm.

The best way to learn about it is to read this GeekList, which includes pictures:
Jeffy Jeff's OLWLG: Duplicate Protection For Dummies

Almost in every case you will get warnings, which this Geeklist explains, but here is also this wiki article:
http://boardgamegeek.com/wiki/page/OLWLG#toc12

I have done it a couple of times, and I am available to discuss it with anyone and help you understand it, once the want list submission opens in 3 days. My skype name is "igrous", feel free to add me and ask any questions. Otherwise, you can geekmail me and I can guide you through it over the phone as well.

Adding games is now closed. Please submit your want lists via OLWLG. For instructions, see the GeekList header.

We have a week to do this, but given that there are other trades happening, I can run the algorithm as soon as everyone has submitted.

Feel free to post any questions, I expect this to confuse some first-timers, so don't hold back.

.

Who, by the way, are you expecting to pay the
"contribution for gas money (e.g. 1e/game)"
for a single game? The sender, or the receiver?

This was not too clearly mentioned in the introduction for the trade.

I now take it it's the sender.... or at least it's the sender for all those items that don't fail to mention "Handover in Turku/Helsinki only, recipients in other locations have to pay shipping".

Of course, to mess things up, starting about from item 137, there is a good amount of games listed with only promise "Handover in Helsinki only, recipients in other locations have to pay shipping"... so is this to say that for these items the receiver must pay even if (s)he can pickup from Turku, or is it just that these senders still meant (and are expected) to ship to Turku, too ??

This question concerns everyone who are to give away a game locally and are in turn receiving a game from the other city, or receive locally/give to other city. Multiplied by the number of such items in the trade.

Easy answer: nobody. This is purely voluntary.

Besides, we might end up with a ton of TKU < - > TKU and HKI < - > HKI trades, but little TKU < - > HKI action.

I am more worried about any TKU < - > ATH < - > HKI situations.

Only 2 users remain to submit their wants. I actually ran a test with the wants being what they currently are, and we got a very good trade percentage.

I have sent numerous reminder geekmails, and if those last two users do not submit wants by the deadline, their games won't play a part at all.

The trade is finished! Scroll up for the results.

Do not give or send any games yet!
All participants have now 24 hours to report any problems to me. I will post instructions for inter-city delivery soon, when tomorrow at 23:00 I give the all clear.

All in all, I am very happy with the result - 56 of 206 items (27.2%) - and it seems that there is going to be some nice trades happening.

There were no complaints, and so the results stand.

For all trades, please use the BGG trade manager. A more direct way to do it is to click on the OLWLG results page, scroll down to your username, and then click on the username of the user that you are giving items to. This will automatically open the BGG trade manager, where you can check off what games you are giving.

Set the expiration date for the trade offer as 30 days. I, for one, always include this text in the note or address bar:
Quote:

Note to all senders: Please keep the receipt from the post office, and if possible, take a picture of the game before sending it, to track any possible damage to it. I take pictures of all games before I send them.

I actually do this. It helps immensely, and I have peace of mind.

When I later leave feedback, I use this template to keep it as objective as I can:
Quote:
November 2011 European Maths Trade ///1 Wings of War miniature /// Received: 29 November 2011 /// Packing: cardboard box, styrofoam /// Condition: perfect

Among the many reasons for using the BGG trade manager are:
- It keeps track of where games went.
- It allows for feedback to be given, keeping traders accountable.
- It gives you a good trade rating, which is an advantage in other, direct trades.

Please make sure to have marked items you are giving as "For trade" within BGG. Givers of items should initiate the process, but if they for some reason forget or delay, it is ok for the recipient to do this too.

Note that I, as the math trade organiser make no guarantees for games or other items other than my own. I will respond to complaints about the math trade itself, but if you get a damaged, incorrect or incomplete item, please use the BGG trade dispute resolution process. Even in math trades, I check the trade ratings of users that offer games I put in my want lists

Logistics

I hope to hitch a ride with Teppo. I am doing this for fun, and I am ready to pay for all the gas money myself, but a small contribution for whoever pays the gas money would be nice. 1 EUR/game is the maximum suggested contribution. Thank you, and please know, that this is purely, completely, 1000% voluntary.

TKU->TKU and HKI->HKI
You may do these trades at will.

TKU->HKI
Please, drop off games at my place (or Teppo's, if you arrange this with him). I have moved, so get in touch to get the new address. Please do this as soon as possible, to ensure that your games make in the car.

HKI->TKU
Helsinkians, hello! I come from a small town in the west, where the water is clean and the girls are always smiling. I realise that you live in the Only Real City in Salmiakki-land, and distances can be great, but I would love it if I could come there, drop off all Turku games at one point, and pick up all Helsinki games at the same point in the space/time continuum. So, perhaps you might have to leave your games at the SLS clubspace, or you have to come downtown. Either way, it beats paying for postage. Please remain calm and await instructions. Thank you, carry on.

VAA/ATH
You guys are crazy.
